I would go for a PDP instead of a LCD. LCD is still evolving and motion blur can still be a problem. If you want to watch movies or play games, plasma is best. It has better viewing angles and an almost instant refresh rate.
If you want to buy a plasma, Panasonic and Samsung are the brands to go for. If you want to buy a LCD, please buy a LED-LCD for it will be more energy efficient.
As far as the fake copies go, I have talked to at-least five sellers. Almost every shop has one or two of these chinese fake copy LED. They are in the same packing, they look the same. The software will hang a little maybe. They are called as smuggled once, with Made in Malaysia written on the back. Please avoid them at any cost.
Try and buy from trusted shops and please do avoid sellers on different websites selling LCD's or PDP. 90% are selling fake chinese copies.
For entry level plasma, you can buy Samsung 43e400. The best price and good quality plasma.
For LED, go for Samsung series 6 LED-LCD. It has a better picture quality compared to bravia. Bravia is expensive and lesser in quality. Samsung is producing panels for almost all other TV manufacturers. Second choice can be LG. LG has some good LED's.
If you search a little and talk to a few experts, LED and 3D is an evolving technology which means they are expensive and with in little time will be replaced with a better model and the price of your unit will go down drastically.
Happy shopping!
PS: I did a lot of research on the different between LCD, Plasma and LED and purchased myself a Plasma. I am satisfied and I think it is the right value for money.
