I check all fluids regularly, pay close attention to abnormal sounds, etc. The car never over-heats, I use Caltex coolant, the fan is auto and the thermo works well. I'm very finicky about my car.
The fault was a seized water pump bearing, it was noisey and finally decided to seize up. Let me tell you, the sound was BAD, so bad that passer-bys were staring at the car. I was afraid I will break something if I even start the car, and while taking the car to the mechanic hardly a KM away, it happened! I heard a zzzzzip and the car shut down. The water pump is driven by the timing belt. I knew I had blown the timing belt. Towed it to the mechanic and found the timing belt broken, seized water pump, broken timing cover (broken by the belt) and melted inner cover (melted by the heat of the seized bearing).
Got genuine parts from Plaza today, the car is still in the shop getting repaired.
