I would like to import a JDM car. I have searched the forum and found some scattered information but nothing concrete. I would like this thread to become a proper guide for any individual who would want to self import his car in future.

1) Where to find and buy/bid cars on the internet.
I have heard about Japan partner but I am not sure if its legit/reliable. I would like to know how dealers get their cars. I see some people (non-dealers) who have extra money lying around, import the cars and sell for a profit. Where do they buy the cars ? I am guessing there is some online portal that I am not aware of.
2) How much profit do the dealers make on average, in other words how much money I can save by self importing a car. Lets/please use 2012 Vitz in your example.
3) How long does it take from buying the car to getting it delivered to our doorstep etc.
I have heard 3-4 months, is this correct/accurate ?
4) What are the costs involved other than the FOB price.
I use Custom Duties, Used Cars Duties, Tax on Imported Used Cars | Autolog Pakistan :: oliac.pk/autolog to get an idea about the custom duties, but I am not sure about the freight charges, insurance, delivery charges from Karachi port to respective city forexample lahore and any port/landing etc chages if there are any.
5) What are the risks involved? if there are any.
Please share any information you have. I would love to hear from someone who is importing cars professionally. This will not hurt the JDM car sales for dealers, but help people like me who want to get their hands on specific type of cars; in my case I am interested in 1300cc or 1500cc 2012/2013 Vitz with low milage, good rating and in color that I like/prefer.
