I have been a silent user of PAKWHEELS for some time now, decided it was about time to share an experience of a recent purchase I did.
Currently i am a mechanical engineering student at an Australian university in Malaysia. After moving out of hostel I started renting a car with my housemates for the daily commute to university, it was not long until I realized how much money was being wasted in these rentals. It would have been much feasible to have bought a second hand car and sell it when your degree ends. A normal sedan such as the 2009 Proton Saga can be acquired at 1000 RM a month, being shared among 2 other housemates the cost was about 333 RM/Person. Now the said 333 RM that you spent bought you a beaten up abused car with roller skates for tires. The only priority renters had was money, if their cars were in running condition and brought them money they would not give much heed to the usual servicing/replacing of wear and tear parts. To top all of this off were the "nakhras" you had to endure of your housemates since you all were sharing the said vehicle and everyone wanted a piece of it.
Malaysian second-hand car market is quite different than Pakistan's. They do not care how many owners the cars had or if it has been sprayed completely (your car's value is actually more if the paint is new, no matter how many times its been resprayed). Finding the right car which fulfilled my needs such as fuel efficiency and low running cost with a service history, was a hard task merely because i was prone to being fooled into buying something faulty. It took me about a semester and half to find the right car and it was a seniors who had completed his degree. The car had all maintenance work taken care of with proof. Engine was in top notch condition regarding the miles it had on it and the price was in my budget, since he had to sell the car before his flight which was in a couple of days i was able to strike a good deal. The transaction could not have been smoother. I had found myself a 2000 Proton Wira Aeroback GL, powered by a 1300cc SOHC 4 cylinder efi engine (4G13) producing 73hp (well when it was new, might have shed some ponies in these 15 years) mated to a 5 gear manual transmission. Not the best engine to power such a car i would say.
In this thread i will share the updates done on her after the purchase.
Without further ado here is Blu on 4th December 2014 (the day i got her) clocked at 253000 kms.
