Not much of a diy...just wanted to share my experience.
I recently ordered a pair of chinese HID bi-xenon projectors and LED lights.
My car 98 Civic has pathetic lights even with high power bulbs so I wanted to go with something powerful. HID was the obvious choice but I decided to go with LED for 3 reasons:
- LEDs have longer life. Hopefully the ones I ordered will also have long life InshaAllah.
- I had a small budget and OEM/branded HIDs are expensive while cheap ones fail very quickly. So LEDs would be cost effective.
- LEDs turn on instantly while HIDs take some time to warm up. Secondly flashing high beam leads to shorter HID life.
There are some caveats too:
1. The LED driver gets too hot so I dont know how long it will last.
2. HIDs emit light 360* but there are two LEDs are on opposite sides with uneven distribution. According to other online forums, because of although the light on road in front of the car is good, the "throw" of LED is less, meaning less light far away on the road.
3. Cutoff is a not so clean (Still Very Good though!) and there is no room to rotate the bulb.
