Hi all,
I have bought a screwed up ALtis 2006 manual transmission with 130k km on the odo.
The car's engine is making constant noise from what seems to be the tappets. (loud chick chick chick sound whose occurrence is related with the rpm)
The car's history is unknown. The previous owner himself doesnt know much but says that the timing chain (which never requires replacement) has been replaced.
I have been to 2-3 mechanics. A prominent mechanic in LHR says that its tappet gap is wide which is also a good thing in this weather. nothing to worry about. it will not increase but may recede with time.
The mechanic at AutoClub I-10, Islamabad says the sound will never go. he himself has tried working with a similar engine. the block and the head will be replaced only then the sound will go.
Toyota Cantt motors LHR said the trouble shooting will require tearing up the engine.
Toyota Rawal Motors RWP said the trouble shooting will start from removing tappet cover then opening head or going beyond that and most likely the Head will be rebuilt with an estimate of around 45,000/-
The tappets ofcourse cannot be readjusted as the engine has hydraulic tappets.
I want to know what should i do. Should i just ignore the problem? which is the best place in RWP / ISB to rectify the problem. and which is better: getting the head rebuilt, buying a second hand head from kabbar or replacing the whole engine? cost estimate of getting a new engine swapped?
any insight into the problem @xulfiqar bhai please help
