Why are the only people worried about security in Pakistan expats? Worrying for your safety? "Bad people" kidnapping rich people?
More often than not you've been fed stories. As someone who has lived in Karachi in a decent community with considerable amenities you sound like a fantasizer. Kidnappings, murders, and theft happen for a reason. Except for petty theft or a case of wrong place / wrong time, these things are never random in Pakistan.
Some (emphasis on some) of my relatives who drive reasonable luxury cars have armed guards. The reason they do is obvious - they have made decisions in their lifetime that have upset a lot of people. Enough to make them believe someone will hurt them and their children. In effect, the guards are there to protect the kids.
The MAJORITY DO NOT have guards, they drive their own cars. They dont carry any type of revolver, semi automatic or even butter knife. Why do so many members on PakWheels with luxury cars drive alone? ChaterAli has a bmw. I dont see him load in his cavalry when he goes to buy milk. If you've lived an honest life you have no need to buy a Vigo and load it with pathan guards.
I can confidently generalize when I say most people who have guards in pakistan have them because they have enemies. There are the few who give their driver a pistol, and there are some that do it to show off.
You only have to fear for your life in Pakistan if someone wants you dead. If that's the case, no amount of guards can save you.
