I have tried to compare old tariff with new tariff and as a case study I am considering a vehicle over 1800cc. As you know CVT has been abolished in new tariff but rate of customs duties is raised 15% on over 1800cc vehicles. So here is comparison. It will not only help you to understand how duties are calculated but also give you an idea of what you used to pay and what you will pay.
OLD TARIFF-------------over 1800cc vehicles
Customs Duty.........75%
Sales Tax................15%
Income Tax...............6%
CVT........................7.5%
Assessed Value of Vehicle: Rs 1,000,000-00
Custome Duty (75%): Rs 750,000-00
Net Value for Sales Tax: Rs 1,750,000-00
Sales Tax (15%): Rs 262,500-00
Net Value for Income Tax: Rs 2,012,500-00
Income Tax (6%): Rs 120,750-00
Net Value for CVT: Rs 2,133,250-00
CVT (7.5%): Rs 159,993-75
Total Duties:
Rs 750,000-00 +
Rs 262,500-00 +
Rs 120,750-00 +
Rs 159,993-75 +
Rs 1,293,243-75
NEW TARIFF-------------over 1800cc vehicles
Customs Duty.........90%
Sales Tax................15%
Income Tax...............6%
Assessed Value of Vehicle: Rs 1,000,000-00
Custome Duty (90%): Rs 900,000-00
Net Value for Sales Tax: Rs 1,900,000-00
Sales Tax (15%): Rs 285,000-00
Net Value for Income Tax: Rs 2,185,000-00
Income Tax (6%): Rs 131,100-00
Total Duties:
Rs 900,000-00 +
Rs 285,000-00 +
Rs 131,100-00 +
Rs 1,316,100-00
So Rs 1,293,243-75-------------Rs 1,316,100-00
An amount of Rs 22,856-25 is the difference which is slightly more than what you were paying before. Take this amount as a base to calculate duties.
Depreciation will be applied to a maximum of 50% and vehicle has to be not more than 3 years old (what CBR announced at this stage)
