ISLAMABAD: Fifty-two vehicles, including 41 cars and 11 motorbikes, were stolen from different parts of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the second week of the current month.
In Rawalpindi, 13 cars and six motorbikes were stolen from Banni, Waris Khan, Ganjmandi, Sadiqabad and Westridge, despite police patrolling. The law and order situation in rural areas of the district, Saddar Bairooni, Rawat and Mandra, is no better, as criminals made away with 15 cars last week, with the police stations concerned still without a clue as to their whereabouts.
Though the frequency of crime, especially of vehicle thefts and robberies, is high in Rawalpindi, senior officials are said to have directed police stations to hide it from reporters, as this brings a bad name to the police station concerned.
