Amendment to Provincial Motor Vehicles Act rejected
LAHORE: Treasury members rejected the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2007 moved by opposition member Syed Ehsanullah Waqas with majority voice votes. The bill sought to specify seats for female and male passengers, install barriers between them and restrain male passengers from sitting on female seats. It added that the Regional Transport Authority would regulate stage carriages exclusively for females at specified timings and routes to facilitate female students and workingwomen. Transport Minister Ghulam Mohiuddin Chishti opposed the bill said that these laws already existed. Law Minister Basharat Raja said special buses for females would be started in Punjab soon. staff report
