hi guys,
i think its simple maths, nop matter what toyota does as they've put ABS in vvti where are they gonna take the 1650 kgs of this huge car.... ABS improves handling druring braking doesnt shorten the braking distance much. so my guess is the new vvti will be more controllable during braking but the dist wud be pretty much the same.
by the way we owned toyotas for past like 24 years, i was a big toyota lover but then something changed and the new mellenium brought the new civic, new and improved. i must say toyota has done little to innovate. we owned the new corollas, xli, od, and od saloon. and in less than two years we have replaced them with hondas because of their superior performance. the older shape corolla was certainly one of a kind but this new shape gives u the feeling of granduer but take away control from u. the car goes where it wants to go, it has so mush momentum.
as for fuel consumption, only time will tell at present its claims on toyotas part and speculations on ours.
i seriuosly doubt the quality control of toyota because 2 of our cars had seriuocly malfitted rear suspensions at the time of delivery which had to be reparied at toyota dealerships and my complaints never even got replied by any toyota official.
anyway i used to laugh at guys who used to say once u drive honda u'll never drive toyota again. i used to mock them. but when i drove it for sometime, i realised honda is much better and i get less tired driving it.
coming back to vvti, toyota is again doing what it did during the ninties just changing lights and grill and declaring it a new model, these are their cheap tricks, but i do appreciate the ABS, God knows what 1.8 is gonna do to ur posket. as fas as i know the international model of toyota has no change in lights or grill, so once again they are making a fool out of us, as for ABS, the price which they were charging previuosly should have included ABS and if they've realised that thois is a seriuos lacking in the previous car than they should put it in all older versions free of cost. not to mention the fact that this inclusion of abs has come only after the fact that the extremely high accident rate of toyota due to its pathetic braking was discussed in national assembly and the govt officials were worried about their lives since most official cars are toyota.
so i suggest we all campaign to ask toyota to install ABS in the older models (new shape) at 50% cost.
