I am with Baleeno on this one. The rubber seals will get hard in the cold weather. There is no guarantee that they wont go bad even when you use them, but one can only try to prevent future issues by using the ac.
here in the UK, we are told that the AC should be used even in the winter if it is to be kept in working condition for the summer. Mechanics here advice us that and this is exactly what I follow too, that having the AC on doesnt mean you have to have cold air out of it. you can keep the temp to medium or even hot in some cars and still have the ac working. I use this technique to clear out the mist from windscreen etc (turn on the AC when starting the car in the mornings, this way you clear out the windscreens and windows using the de-humidified air from the AC. Or you can just turn it on for 5 mins whenever you remember because it cant make much difference to the fuel economy within 5 mins :). By the way, the AC gas also works as a primer for the rubber seals to keep them in good condition.
