KARACHI (December 17 2007): In an effort to review the progress made by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at Quetta International Airport, a visit was made by CAA Director-General Farooq Rahmatullah, along with CAA CEO (Airport Services) Air Cdre. Junaid Amir and CAA Director (Works) Yousul Kamal on December 14-15, 2007, says a press release.
Farooq Rahmatullah, during his visit, announced that the Authority has allocated Rs 270 million for the up-gradation of all facilities at the Quetta International Airport.
Khalid Basheer, airport manager, Quetta International Airport, gave a detailed presentation regarding the development made at the Quetta International Airport and other efforts made to facilitate all the domestic and international passengers.
The CAA D-G also announced different projects for the Quetta airport, which include the installation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and expansion of terminal building.
Talking about the initiatives taken by the Authority to enhance the capabilities of the employees, a training system has been devised. He also said that 15 percent increase in salary has been announced for the CAA employees and a new performance-based appraisal system is in place.
Highlighting recent milestones achieved by the CAA, Farooq Rahmatullah said that Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, is ranked number one airport among 13 airports of the region's in service performance conducted by the Singapore Airline.
He also said the Authority has planned to equip the new Islamabad International Airport with state-of-the-art facilities for both domestic and international passengers and the airport would have the capacity to cater to the needs of nine million passengers annually.
The CAA chief said that NIIA will be equipped with two runways and about 82 percent work has been completed and remaining work will be accomplished shortly. He said that by the April next year work on the terminal building will be started and the project will be completed within 33 months ie by 2010-end.
Further laying emphasis upon the organisation's commitment to keep pace with global aviation benchmarks, he said, at present, the Authority is operating in strict compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) standards in the core areas of safety, security and regularity. Farooq Rahmatullah said the CDWP has approved Rs 455 million for the up-gradation of the radars to be at par with international standards.-PR
