Turkish Airlines (THY) announced yesterday that the company will file a suit against Warner Bros., the producer of the American film titled "I am Legend," due to the mention of THY in the film without the permission of the airline.
The movie, which was released in Turkey on Jan. 25, includes a scene where lead actor Will Smith listens to a news report saying, "A Turkish Airlines flight went off course due to poor weather conditions."
Some movie fans called THY to convey their disturbance over the scene. The company then started an inquiry both in Turkey and the US and then decided to take the case to court. In addition to not getting permission from THY to use its name, airline officials also noted that the scene in question may damage the company's image. Senior officials from THY noted that such scenes do not usually include the name of a specific company so as to avoid paying for use of the name.
