I really dnt think the people can be blamed for the success of Suzuki, Toyota and Honda,
they have no other choice,
its just a more logical choice, Im sure that if BMW for example was to introduce their cars at a more reasonable price, for example, 3 series for the price of a Civic, or the Merc C class for perhaps around the same price, people would buy them alot more,
no one chooses to buy a shitter for a car,
at the moment for a lot of people logically it does not make sense to purchase the other cars in that price range such as the Corolla X and the Premio, Allion etc due to terrible resale and parts availability, dealer fleecing people selling cars that have been written off,
today I saw a pic here on Pakwheels of a Jag which seemed like its axel had snapped,
I know people who regret ever having bought cars like the Platz, granted, its a heap of junk but its far better than anything offered for that price in the local market,
I think that the government needs to encourage foreign manufacturers to enter the country not just for retail but for manufacturing too,
there should be a policy, for example, retail for 3 years, by that time atleast an assembly line should be up and running, and then the prices will fall, this will create competition so the prices will become more realistic, I mean come on man, just look at the prices our cars cost, its totally crazy, theyre not worth it, the 2.0D saloon isnt worth close to 13, Cultus is now way worth close to 6, even the civic isnt worth its 14 to 15 price tag,
I think its the governments fault,
furthermore, manufacturing or even assembling locally with 20% of parts sourced locally will increase employment, increase quality benchmarks for local manufacturers, make cars more reasonably priced and give rise to a dozen auxilliary industries.
Perhaps in the future these manufacturers can even export from Pakistan taking advantage of cheap costs of labour etc,
unfortunately our politicians are too selfish to care about anything like that, theyre just in for a quick buck during their tenure, and then they live happily ever after.
