SMEDA helps boost automotive sector’s production

LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) has done a great job in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to have more than 100 per cent increase in production of the SMEs operating in automotive sector.
It was observed by Pakistan Association of Auto parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Chairman Muhammad A Aslam Malik, Hybrid Technies Chief Executive Mohsin M Syed, Infinity Engineering Chief Executive Abdur Razzaq Gauhar and Amer Farooqui of the Sampak Engineering while addressing the farewell reception jointly hosted by PAAPAM in honour of the outgoing senior volunteer of JICA Kiyoshi Yoshida, Shahid Rashid, Chief Executive Officer, Smeda, Ms Ikuko WAKAI, Coordinator, JICA, Pakistan and Kiyoshi Yoshida also addressed the ceremony.
Shahid, in his address, expressed deep satisfaction over the Smeda-J1CA Industry Support Programme. "This has been very inspiring afternoon for me when the industry stakeholders are acknowledging the services to Smeda with high regards" he said.
He expressed heartiest gratitude to Japanese Expert Kiyoshi Yoshida, who had worked very hard along with Smeda team to bring the dream into reality. He informed JICA experts with about 30-35 years of experience in automotive industry of Japan, coupled with pertinent education in their respective fields had transferred their knowledge, expertise and methodology to the local industry. Japanese experts, he said, were attached with individual auto parts manufacturing units and provided technical consultancy 03 different production management issues at shop floor level.
Earlier, Malik while delivering address of welcome to the guest said Smeda had adopted the very right way to upgrade local industry by brining the must modern expertise from Japan, in stead sending so many people to Japan for training. He hoped that such initiatives would be extended m future with the same vigour. Hs advised also to include OEMs into SMEDA-JICA industry support programme. Gauhar acknowledged Smeda-JICA support had increased efficiency of the each and every machine as well as each and every workman of his production hour. He suggested that Smeda's local team should continue this support to the industry even after departure of the Japanese Experts.
