The Clifton Town police caught hold of two criminals, including the son of a former EDO Education. The men were involved in more than 40 robberies in Clifton Town. They were known as “the Chhalaawa group.” The police also recovered cell phones, Rolex watches, and jewellery worth millions from them.
During a press briefing, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi Waseem Ahmed said that many cases were registered at various police stations in Clifton Town to the effect that a gang was active in the town and was involved in street crimes. They used a white car for transport.
Ahmed added that a police team was dispatched for surveillance and the intelligence network was expanded. Late Wednesday night, Madadgar-15 received a distress call, and the police party of Gizri, including the SIO Gizri, trapped the suspects on Golf Course Road, Phase-IV, DHA.
The police signalled them to stop but the bandits shot at them. The shooting was retaliated by the police, and the tyres of the car were burst. The bandits, however, continued shooting at the police and tried to hijack another car before they were intercepted. The accused persons were identified as Mohammad Ali Hajiano, son of former EDO Education Gul Mohammad Hajiano, and Umair Khan son of Mohammed Ashraf, SSP Ashfaq Alam of Clifton Town said. The group had been active in the town from the past eight months, SSP Alam said, adding that Hajiano was the ringleader.
The accused also sexually abused women present in the vehicles they robbed. The police search yielded two 9mm pistols, women’s purses and men’s wallets, 60 Rolex watches, jewellery worth million of rupees, cell phones, ATM cards of various banks and a car (No. AND-578).
SSP Investigation South Zone Shahid Hayat said that Hajiano, himself a matriculate, was married to an MBBS doctor, and had a child. The officer said that Hajiano was arrested about five years ago by the Darakhshan police when he impersonated an Army Major for the release of some people.
The accused used a white corolla for transport, which they rented for Rs28,000 per month. They also sold robbed jewellery and used a Mercedes car (No. AEN-796) for transporting the loot. To dodge jewellers, they had pasted the shield of a High Court Advocate at the back of the car.
The modus operandi of the accused was that they usually committed robberies between 9pm and a little after 11:45pm. They wore long, shaggy-haired wigs to conceal their identities. Accused Umair Khan is a motor mechanic, investigators said.
