LAHORE: A traffic warden who stopped a member of the provincial assembly (MPA) for using a mobile phone while driving was suspended, Religious Affairs and Minorities Minister Kamran Michael told the Punjab Assembly on Monday. MPA Dr Muhammad Ashraf Chohan presented a privilege motion stating that on October 20, 2008, he was stopped by warden Jawad near the Liberty roundabout. “The warden said he would issue me a ticket for using my phone while driving,” the MPA said. Chohan said when he introduced himself as an MPA, the warden said traffic wardens had been ordered to issue tickets to everyone, whether an MPA or a minister. “When I told him my name then the warden smiled and asked why I hadn’t informed him that I was a doctor earlier,” he said. He said when he asked the warden if the law was different for an MPA and a doctor then he said ‘you could say so’.
