As the title suggests, I am exploring the option of adding a thermal imaging camera to my car for night time driving, Has anyone dabbled into this field or thought about it!.. any insight very welcomed.
regards
@shahid
Due to my job, I had the chance to work thermal cameras and I can assure you that the minimum cost for a good quality camera is around $50,000. Its better to wait for a few years and buy a used BMW 7 series by then!
check out more details of the cams I worked on.

Salarzae, thanks for your input, what I had in mind based on my need is something like the following and certainly not in 50,000 range that you might have worked with...

Nice idea Bro!!
The one you mentioned is also manufactured by FLIR and still cost around $4k+...the one I worked were for Govt related projects, thats why they were more costly. Anyway, wish you best of luck.
dude ita a INFRA RED camera that you are talking about
its simple
get a 200 to 250 rupees CCTV camerablack in white
connect some IR leds and wola a infra red camera during night
@wala,that works for short distances and in theory only.. to capture an image from a distance of even 50 yards you need a hell of lot of powerful IR leds.
infrared leds upto 2 watts are available in marketthey are more than enough
use a convex lens in front of then to even increase their range
i have done it already it works fine
@walaWhat was the focal length of the convex lens you used on the 2W IR Leds.. also what was the spec of the IR led i.e their peak wavelength and radiant intensity.. do you have any information on hand.. how did you adjust the CCTV to control noise ir reflection . Please don't simply say that you conected them and the cctv picxked up everything!!!!! and at 60KMH in pitch dark what is the range of these Leds. I have stacks of these Leds we use for installaing into PIR security systems and liquid bounce measurements. and as each led that I have only has a fov of 16.36 degrees how does it cover a field of view of over 120 degrees while driving.
Which ride do you own man?
thermal imaging. i don't see how it can be useful for everyday diving.
Interesting topic. Nightvision would be very practicle for night offroading, provided there is an economical option for the night vision devices.
Get some powerful night Lamps, put them on hood on ur SUV, no need to get an IR Camera....
useful if u want to drive with ur lights off..? but pretty dangerous and camera is not 3d.. saw an episode of mythbusters.. they installed nightvision and drove... lols..
Salarzae - is it true that most FLIR tech was developed by Israel and American Jews?
Yup, and we are using them in Al-Zarar Tanks.
