    Default Lancer 2005 engine problem

    Dear All,
I have a 1.6 2005 lancer, it has run for 180 k, its burns the whole engine oil in like 1500 km. also give blue smoke in the morning. Mechanic is saying to get the engine overhaul, although he is reluctant to propose cost. I would like to know what would be the estimated cost, and would it be better to swap engines, if yes what would be the cost then. Also are there any good lancer mechanics in faisalabad who will be able to do the job.

    waiting for a reply.

well this condition just after 180k km, which means poor maintenance and abuse...

anyway estimating the overhaul cost will be very difficult without dismantling the engine itself.
i will recommend you to put in a "kabuli" engine, i think the long block "assembly" will cost you around 25k or so

I could have suggested you mechanic in Pindi...

Go for rebuild if you find a good mechanic.

And cost well its a 2005 Model dun know what went wrong but look like its maintained badly.

Cost can be from 15000 to 35000 Depending upon the spare parts prices, I am not aware of the new lancer part prices.

The car is giving smoke all the time or only in the morning?

The morning smoke usualy means bad valves.

    Thanks for the reply,
Actually I bought the car 6 months ago, from some one I knew, so I didn't got it checked by a mechanic, one month after purchase I was told by a mechanic that there were xli coils rather than mitsubishi ones in the engine so i changed those. now about a month back, smoke started but only in the morning, major issue is the oil which it burns, otherwise it is giving no problems

It still has good fuel economy, ac is good, everything else is fine, I am just worried about the burning of oil.

well sli comes with 2nz-fe which has 4 coils, 1 for each cylinder, and the lancer engine has two coils, 1 for 2 cylinders.... and they cant be interchanged... anyway this dosent matters now anymore but just for your info.

The morning smoke is due to bad valve seals. In the night when you park your car what happens is some valves are not properly shut so the oil starts to pile up in the cylinders and you see smoke in morning when this oil burns.

If i was in your place i would have just got the Valve job done along with new Rings (genuine).

hmm Should be around 8 to 10000 Rs if the job is done properly and nicely. Baki log 5000 main bhi kardeita hai but good job requires good money

Consult Mitsubhishi motors and see what they say.

check your compression and then work onwards. I can bet its not worn rings but rather bad valve stem guides and seals, get it rebuilt and install valve seals with the straw/slip procedure, and make sure that your valve faces have atleast 1.5mm seating, its the primary heat path for the valve to cool down. thinner area less heat transfer - hence worn guides and burnt valve seals. another culprit of oil consumption can be a bad PCV system.

a good mechanic who cherishes his tools must have a compression tester, OR buy, rent, borrow, beg or steal one
