Question Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLX -2005 Pick up problem !!!

    Salam to all borthers,

I have purchased a used lancer 1.6 GLX AT and seller told me to change the plugs and gear oil as it doesn't have a good acceleration. I changed the plugs and changed the gear oil, serviced the throttle but still it's acceleration is not even near to normal this time. when you press speed paddle more, it will give you more engine noise but don't get speed with the noise and get speed slowly slowly. Does any one have any idea what could be the problem with it ?

    Hello every one,
I am here to let all of you know that what happened with me and how did I resolved it.

I bought a lancer 1.6 GLX SR and from the first day it was giving me problem in gear shifting. Seller sold this car in cheap price perhaps he knew the problem of it. When I asked to seller about this problem, he told me that you have to change the gear oil and I have filled 50% of it. I filled it with an ATF oil (6 liter) and moved to my city. I was not satisfied with the pickup of the car. In between I pushed and pulled the gear lever up and down during the running car. When after a week i reached to Lahore I met a gear box mechanic and he told me that car is not shifting its gear and assured me that he can fix this problem. It is Imran @ Multan road near PSO pump. He opened the gear and some pieces were broken inside the gear box. I tried to find those pieces from Bilal Ganj and got them on really high price. Imran fixed the gear and started the engined and after 5 minutes gearbox just crashed and started giving horrible noise and its gear oil started leaking. Then he said sorry he can't fix it. try some where else.

I purchased a new gear box for Rs 23,000 from Faisalabad and moved it to Lahore. another mechanic fitted the gear box and started the engine. It was running just fine for first half hour. Then don't know how it started giving the same problem.
Car was not shifting gear and I was only able to speed it up to 40 KM/H with horrilble noise of Engine.

I was so fed up that I went to a showroom and tried to sell it as it is. they were giving me 7.25 lac for it. In my last try I visited a mechanic and asked him to check the sensor of gearbox and check other things on computer. To my strange he fixed it in 10 minutes only and it was a computer fault. Now car is running as smooth without a single voice from engine or gearbox like a brand new car.....

Moral of the story : Kabhi jeld bazi main ghalat fysla na kero and gari ko hamesha step by step hi check kerwao chahy expense zayada ho jay. Thanks for every one who helped me here.

Well said but this problem is in actual and I believe I have not posted my question in a psychological or new cars forum, if not then this is not the answer Ravager.

Can any one else tell me about it ?

observe the rpm and the speed.if the rpm is high and speed is not increasing, then the culprit is ur transmission

if it is manual the problem is clutch plate or pressure plate, if it is auto the transmission is likely cause which could be as minor as wrong thickness oil

Speed increase slowly slowly even if you increase the RPM, It start noising but speed don't increase in the speed of the noise of engine.

I have the same car but in manual with an excellent pick, in auto the pick should still be significant ... if gear oil is thicker or thinner it will change the gear changing time and ratios, same would be the case if it is over-filled ... can u quote which oil you put and in what quantity ..if u changed oil yourself was the problem there before oil change

Isn't the 2005 lancer transmission CVT ? In which case the "gear oil" is different and its called "CVT oil" other then which nothing would work. Do check with mitsubishi motors for the same bc I am not sure about it

The seller told me after selling his car that Gear Oil is not filled and you have to change the gear oil, this problem was already in the car when I purchased it and he told me that a complete tuning will cover this problem. I have filled 8 ltr gear oil in it. it's pick become better as compared to when it was 4 ltr (the seller didn't filled it completely). but still it is not even near to normal performance. Even my 2006 cultus pick was 300 times better then this one. One mechanic was saying that you have to tune its "Kym" I am not sure what is it and don't want any mechanic to do any thing until I don't know it. that's why confirming it here what could be the problem.

Which transmission oil did you put in?

I hope a simple oil change solves the transmission problem otherwise the repair cost will leave a pretty big hole in your pocket.

finally I had to open the gearbox, it is something like clutch plates of the gearbox jo ghis gae hain and I have to change them, unfortunately I am unable to find it in Lahore. I've checked in Bilal Genj, Midgumri Road and even to Momentum as well. Usman Autos on Midgumri road are saying that they can bring it for me from Japan and today they told me that it would cost me Rs 18,000 for those two plates. **** MAN !!!!! I am pretty sure that the seller knew about this problem and that's why he sold it.
but still Lancer is more comfortable then Civic 2005, no doubt in that !

you have a CVT box, if you or the previous owner used ATF or any other oil than CVTF - your box is a very expensive paperweight now, Mitsubishi do not sell any parts for this, only the entire transmission.

Too bad you are out of luck. You can use Honda or Eneos CVTF in it without issue. btw a CVT car feels like its out of power - as it never shifts and pegs its rpm on a high range but the vehicle speed is actually increasing.

Did you get a live scan on the transmission done, it shows you the fluid service life, any registered anomaly or slip problems. Before opening an electronic transmission of any kind it is advisable to run complete checks, Read all feedback from the scan and then determine the course of work.

Well it looked like a gearbox issue and YES it will cost a lot for repair! Do ask @Xulfiqar on how to go about the repair job.

If you can find a repairman who uses correct torque ratchets, pulling tools, correct sealers (CVT boxes run extremely hot) then you have a go at good repair. Otherwise find a used known working CVT. Install, scan and check thoroughly.
