Default Lancer 1992, 4G13 Engine eating up oil..... Need suggestions....

My lancer 1992 engine is quite weak and eating up oil... Car giving smoke, oil coming in air filter, oil coming from engine cap. I know its gone really weak but i need suggestions regarding:

    1. Should i rebuild the engine?
    2. Should i get a 2nd hand engine from Shershah?

If i rebuild what all should i change during rebuild and wht all things i should watch for during the rebuild?
If i go for 2nd hand engine, can anyone has the knowledge about availability of good 4G13 engine alongwith price tag? Moreover how i can be sure about health of 2nd hand engine?

    Guys urgent help is requested....

those engines are notorious for valve seal oil leaks, go to a workshop that can do a compression test, if your compression is good then overhaul the head.

If you have been driving around with direct running fan, cheapo engine oil with desi jugaar maintenance then you might as well find a new engine or rebuild your old one.

Thnx for such a prompt reply dear.... i am still searching for some guy who could do the compression test, neither did i find any shop here in Karachi having this gadget.... If you (Xulfiqar) or anyone else could help me to find one i would really appreciate. I am ready to buy one.

Secondly i am although running with direct fan but got thermostat installed so engine temp remains on half all the time while engine running. Have to make the fan auto though. Had been using Castrol GTX oil. No other maintenance on engine so far except engine oil and oil filter change after 2500km.

the diesel tester is for 500 psi compression and has different adapters, you need a spark plug size adapter and a 300 psi gauge, if you are in Karachi you can buy one from plaza from the tool shops on Main M A Jinnah Road.
