according to your post.
you are expecting CVT to shift gears (It can never happen as CVT has nothing to shift, only a belt on pulleys to shuttle)
in normal drive - the rpm will remain consistent and the cars speed will increase. They are tuned to match the peak torque efficiency range of the engine rpm.
You say it does not have good pickup when you floor it CVT gearboxes work different, when you floor the pedal, the rpm will rise to redline and stay there while the gearbox shuttles the pulleys for maximum torque advantage the engine can provide and keep on variating to increase speed of the vehicle till the top speed is achieved)
The CVT fluid temperature at this point of time would be skyrocketing to 120 or 130C. Meaning dont do this often.
