Default PBC NANGA PARBAT MEGA BIKING TRIP 2010 (Preparations/Options)

    TRIP PLAN:
    1ST NIGHT : BUS
    2ND NIGHT : NARAN
    3RD NIGHT : GITIDAS
    4TH NIGHT : FAIRY MEADOWS
    5TH NIGHT : RAMA LAKE
    6TH NIGHT : DEO SAI
    7TH NIGHT : RATTU
    8TH NIGHT : RUPAL VALLEY

The total plan will continue for 10 days maximum (+-2 days in case of any emergency like road blockage etc).

We will try to manage these by decreasing our time for the said spots.

The trip is adjustable for participants because pbc members who want to sepnd total 5 days can do it, same for people with 7 or 8 days etc.

Again we will try to manage the complete trip in minimum time with maximum exploration and economic expenditure system.

Default a suggestion from my side

as announced, rama, babusar top, rupal, fairy meadows, deosai... these are the major sites we are intended to go

in my openion we should not go via babusar pass while starting of our tour, instead we should cross babusar pass on our retrieval to islamabad.
REASON: atleast we wont get stuck in start of our program if we stuck in babusar region or upper kaghan region. road building is under process but yet there is more land slidings than on KKH.
acording to me we should follow:

DAY 1: islamabad to besham (hotel)
DAY 2: besham to raikot bridge (camp)
DAY 3: raikot bridge to tatu tough biking. (camp)
DAY 4: trek to fairy meadows/ bayal camp (camp)
DAY 5: return back to fairy meadows and than bike up to jaglot get refreshments bike up to astore town
DAY 6: bike up to rama meadows and rama lake (camp)
DAY 7: bike up to rupal to lutboi till the point bike can go and return back to tarishing (camp)
DAY 8: tarishing to chillam to deosai (camp at bara pani)
DAY 9: REST DAY for fishing and other activities on deosai
DAY 10: barapani, deosai to sadpara (skardu) to khaplu valley
DAY 11: Khaplu valley to skardu to (drive to the limits)
DAy 12: from end of day 11 to cross babusar top camp at gitidas
    DAY 13: gitidas to naran
    DAY 14: back to islamabad

    NOTE for all biker members:

all bikers should arrange their sleeping bag and mattress, heavy duty tourches/ flash lights, lighter, pocket knife, crape bandages, energy drinks and chocholates
if some one cant arrange sleeping bag and mattress than ask administration of tour to buy them one. member has to pay full charges of sleeping bag and mattress.

    NOTE for tour administrators:

administrators are to arrange tents as per number of bikers and emergency stove. also ensure the member who can cook well even in harsh circumstances.

I have added khaplu valley as well. we can take it off to minimize the nomber of days.

Your plan to attempt babusar while returning is pretty reasonable as my friends just returned from a biking trip to Fairy Meadows and Rupal Valley... and their feedback is also the same... since it was very heavy snowfall this year, chances of cleared babusar are very less till our trip day...

One other thing / PROBLEM is that most of us can go for almost at max of 10 days... and beyond that will not be possible due to "leaves from office"... so, kindly propose a sub/alternate plan for people as well who can come for 10 days only...

In late July Babusar should be open with low nallahs due to light snowfall this year. Babusar route is 125kms shorter, cooler, prettier and except for 40kms the road is much better. Driving on KKH from Battgram till Chillas is a nightmare due to extreme heat and the terrible condition of the road.
My suggestion, dont change the route.

day 1::: from ibd to besham: long route, straight drive on KKH, hot weather

day 2::: besham to RAIKOT BRIDGE= KKH, hot route............ RAIKOT Bridge to tatu= real test of biking, dirt track, extremly hot and rocky. the most difficult part of whole biking plan (take lots of water with you there is no water in way. and is 12 km almost 45 degree angel) this is the most intersting part of biking tour.

day 3::: tatu to raikot bridge= tough, must have powerfull breaks and full control on bike using gears, RAIKOT BRIDGE to jaglot= KKH, mild hot weather... JAGLOT to ASTORE= classical track, less width of road, in way waterfalls are famous (at harchu village) drive carefully one side steep mountains and other side astore river

day4::: astore to rama meadows= easy climb, not so tough, track in green pastures reaching rama lake,in 2006 i camped at the last bridge before rama lake which was under construction and ate full BAKRA in a NIGHT. RAMA to tarishing= rama to astore is the same route, astore to gorikot village is metled road after gorikot there was a dirt track in 2006 but scenic view was awesome. drive under the shadows of nangaperbet and reach exotic village of tarishing
day 5::: tarishing to deosai bara pani= long trek, track gradually keep its inclination. tiring track but the region is unique in whole of the world
    DAy 6:::
day 7::: kkh to chilas , chilas to KKH= inclination, hot get sun block cream other wise the sun of this region will not spare you. from chilas to besal, the sun is extremely dangerous

Day 8: gitidas to naran= peace, scenes and relaxing

    day 9: naran to home .. \

yaro apni puri life main itna type shayad hi kabhi kiya ho

Personally by heart i love to go from babusar top...

One other reason to avoid the KKH is that in some patches it is excellent but mostly it is very ___ ___ ___ you know what i mean to say...

shah sb...Basham to raikot bridge in one go...wow,person/bike has to be in prime condition to complete it in a day.Buhat BP condition hai road ki.Last year on bus we reached basham @ 2-2:30 AM and then reached chilas @ 90 AM (non stop driving),meaning 7 hours of continuous drive and i'm sure bike par 7 hours mai kamar takhta ho jaye gi.Especially considering the other parameters such as unforgiving hot weather of kohistan and pathetic condition of KKH.
2ndly, Again from skardu till chilas,Longgggggggg drive.
Qaiser Pal,I have not failed. But found 1 of 10,000 ways which doesn't work.....Toyota driver "I couldn't repair my brakes,so i made my horn louder"..When i was born i was so surprised that i didn't talked to one and half year..since light travel faster then sound, people appear bright until you hear them speak..If u can't convince them, confuse them

Agreed with you the condition of KKH is really pathetic... only very few patches of very few KMs are of good condition...

KKH is bad but maybe not as bad. Last year at this age driving a bike after decades I drove from Chillas till Mansehra in one day and reached around late afternoon. Next day 2 of our members, lovebikes and elixir drove from Jaglot to Islamabad in a day.
Maybe it is easier to travel on a bike on that road rather than a 4 wheeler.

Last year the road from Mansehra to Naran was no better than the KKH till Chillas... and i with one more friend reached Naran from Lahore in 14 hours and not to mention on a 240 KG GSX 750, which is really difficult to handle in these conditions of road...
