    Question Deosai - biking across

    Salam,

We are planning a bicycle trek across Deosai around the end of June. We wanted to go to Skardu first, buy a few mountain bikes there, cross Deosai, get out at Astore and then move towards Gilgit.

    The questions:
    1. Is it possible to arrange mountain bikes at Skardu (I don't see why not)
    2. If not then can we take bikes along with us on the planes? Would that exceed the weight limit?
    3. More importantly we wanted to get rid of the bikes once we crossed Deosai. I would appreciate suggestions upon that. My initial idea was that we rent the bikes and return them after use. But since we don't want to go back to Skardu, that is creating problems. I don't like the idea of carrying them around.

    Any help would be appreciated

    There is no bike rentals/shop.

To cross deosai you have to ascend 6000 feet from Skardu

    Deosai (14000) and Skardu 8000.

    So it will be hectic.

And also buy you bike from Isb and take back to isb.

    Call PIA for reservation.

Wats your biking experience in past?

Thanks for the reply. The intention was not to do all of it on bikes but to get to a suitable entry point into Deosai on a jeep. And then use a bike.

The biking experience by the way isn't amazing and I don't want to test my tour de France skills right now. I was focusing on a track that we could either walk through or bike through.

great idea. it will be good fun to pedal across deosai. I am not sure about mountain bikes being sold in skardu but keep asking you might find someone who can arrange rental bikes for you which could be picked up from astore when you drop them. I know a guy in gilgit who agreed to the same arrangements for rental motorbike. there should be someone in skardu as well
I work only because it pays for three F's. Food for me, Fuel for my bike and Film for my camera.
