Default The wind, bike & heart; Tour De North

Its all about the freedom of life on the road, a personal adventure that leads a biker to the highlands of North Pakistan. I done this trip during the flood of 2010, infact it got flooded in the midst of my this journey. This adventure started with passion, hope, fear of unseen and ended giving experience & memories of good times to be recalled. It also helped me discover myself and taught me lessons to be remembered.

    Some Statistics:
    Days Spent: 35
Distance Covered: 6300km (home to home)

I suggested Irfan that instead of staying at Athmakam, better to go Keran; a beautiful soothing place in Neelum Valley. He got agreed on my suggestion. We rode to Keran and it took us almost 45 minutes from Athmakam to reach Keran. In Keran, there is a beautiful rest house of AJK tourism department by the river side; a heavenly place. We inquired from the persons at rest house about room availabilty and they said it is fully booked and you may only stay here if you have any prior booking receipt with you from Muzaffarabad Tourism office which we weren't having. They suggested us to go to Lawat Pain, which is at a distance of 15/20 km north of Keran, for night stay. It was almost dark and we had to make a decision. One thing was sure and it was that there was no place in Keran to stay for us and we weren't in possession of tent at that time. So instead of going forward we decided to go backward to Athmakam. Decision was based on findings from my previous visit to Neelum on public transport. One thing i tell you: when it comes to nice hotels, Neelum valley is not a suitable answer. There are many factors behind that and if i start explaining it, my post may get too lengthy. Irfan was against the idea of going backward. He is a man who thinks that going back 1km in life means you would have to cover 2km again to reach back the same spot and he is right too. But there are many considerations which you have to take into account when you are on road. So i made him agreed by telling that Athmakam is the District headquarter of Neelum valley and we may find some reasonable place over there for night stay, whereas Lawat is a remote place.
So we turned back towards Athmakam. After covering 2/3 km, it started drizlling and we rode slowly back to Athmakam in order to negotiate with the slippery wet road/dirt track.

We reached back Athmakam by 9PM and search for a hotel began. Finally got a room in a hotel which still may not be called reasonable but we had not left with any other option. Parked our ride, untied the luggage and took it to our room. Later went to resturant hall of the hotel, had dinner of Karahi and tea. Went back to room. Did little chit chat in the room and finaly went sleep.
    END DAY3

For adventures, one needs passion and equipments not matter as such.
As for updates, they are and they will remain coming. So stay tuned

Almost reached Keran. You can see the settelement on the far opposite side of the river is located in Occupied territory(from our prespective.)
In Neelum valley there are places where Neelum River is the LOC between Pakistani and Indian administrated Kashmir. Chalyana and Keran are two most obvious places in Neelum Valley to observe this. While i was writing this, one funny incident came into my mind. On our return, we stopped by a roadside Dhaba at Chalyana to buy some juices. There Irfan spotted a Indian "Taranga" flying in a military compound on the opposite side of the river. Out of curiosity, Irfan asked the shopkeeper about it and shopkeeper told that it was Indian held side. Irfan wanted to take a photo of it and asked shopkeeper that he wants to take a shot of it. Shopkeeper replied " Please stay little away from my shop and then do that exercise."
