I have been contemplating about mountain biking in Neelum or Kaghan valley for quite some time,

from various threads what I have gathered is that Police wont let you go beyond Lulusar lake due to security concerns so Babusar is out. I also know that there is a Kaghan memorial trust which organises mountain bike events in the valley in which international participants also come and because of that you get police escorts as well,

I hope you are in good physical shape for all that uphill mountain biking what I had in mind was taking a bus ride and then come back downhill on the bike, what dates are you planning to leave, please check terrain on a topographic map to get an idea what you are up against best is google maps alternatively you might also check this one out India and Pakistan AMS Topographic Maps - Perry-Casta?eda Map Collection - UT Library Online a bit hard to understand but very detailed

I have traveled Kaghan Valley in august. i was on my Honda 125, 10th august , I went Naran-Kaghan from Mansehra and through lulusar lake and we reached babusar pass @ 6-45 pm.i stayed there for 5 mints then decided to go to chilas. I reached chilas @ 9 pm.The road from babusar to chilas is a nightmare and night time. then from chilas to gilgit and from gilgit to besham through KKH. Last Day i traveled 650 KM from besham to Sheikhupura on bike. i arrived Sheikhupura @ 11-30 pm..

Now i m planning on Mountain Bike in April or May. If we have good gathering of 4 or 10 people, it will be a Great journey. So if you Intersted then it will be fun..

First of no offense is intended I am just trying to be practical keeping in view my own physical capabilities,

I am giving below approximate altitudes of main stations for the intended route
    Balakot 1100m
    Kiwai 1500m
    Khanian 1800m
    Kaghan 2100m
    Naran 2500m
    Batakundi 2700m
    Burawai 3000m
    Jalkhad 3200m
    Lulusar 3400m

Balakot to Lulusar is about 132 km

I bike for about 15km every 2nd day on flat surface (like Shiekhupura) in front of sea thats 0 m and try to find routes with occasional hikes of 5 to 10m in a distance of about 2 to 3 km and it makes me feel like I am not yet ready for uphill biking of Kaghan valley, It is hell difficult pedaling head on in the wind on flat surfaces what to talk of uphill.

All that I am trying to say is that if you can ride 20km in salt range or some other nearby mountain range comfortably then good for you otherwise it would be more like taking your bike for a walk uphill.

Should be able train myself till Apr May my intended route was Neelum valley > Shontar Pass > Astore > KKH > Chillas > Babusar Pass > Kaghan Valley but due to security issues in Kohistani areas trying to chart a new route (some sections would require carrying bike on shoulder)

    best of luck

Irfan bhai you are right but i think practice and determination is the key. i am practicing 20Km daily basis .. and for saturday i have chosen 60 or 70 Km path.. and about altitude there is no way i can practice here . we have to live with that.

Mountain Bike Trip from to Mansehra to NaranKaghan Valley -1055888

About route if u agree we can manage it.. like Mansehra->balakot->Muzafarabad->Neelam valley-> Sheosar (Deosai Plains)-> Astor and for babusar pass leave it for the time..

and about some sections carrying bike on shoulder ... we will manage it...

bro its quite dangerous out there, as a doc i must tell u the hazards..
in simple medical terminology the higher u go, the more physical work u do, the more oxygen u need n as a result you faint.

We had a 3 person light weight tent along with us. At some places we stayed in hotel and sometime camped. Meals were normally taken by small road side Dhabas's.
