    Near Khaplu

Heard much about Hushe valley, but Khaplu was as far as we went.

At khaplu, pretty much all we did was hunt for room for 2 hours and the hunt for food for another hour.
Cheap accommodation options are hard to find there. So is the food after maghrib.

Next morning took breakfast and started preparing for riding back.
It was 11th day of trip and it was time to start riding back towards ISL now.
Day's plan was to get back to Skardu and hit Shigar valley on the way.

    On the way back....

While enjoying the scenery, i noticed Usman's GS misfiring and came to know bike is doing quite a bit of missing since we left from Khaplu.

Me trying to figure out the issue..

The supposedly "Thanda" Desert was not so thanda at the day.

We rode all the way to Shigar valley and after a bit of wandering around decided to visit the Shigar Fort.

Never liked the shiggar fort a bit, more like a ancient personal house turned into a (with pimps and spices of Serena Hotel) ... it was a total thumbs down we did not even bothered to stop there and returned in few minutes after realising how lousy it was.

After visiting fort, left back for Skardu.

My friends were pretty much determined to recreate the "Shahrukh Khan riding Royal Enfield scene from JTHJ"
    So here goes nothing...

In our first attempt, Usman starred, while Imtiaz was the photographer and well I was the driver.

Result was so so for first attempt, and Usman saw the video and said we could do much better.
This time Imtiaz was the star and Usman took the camera while me still the driver.

    That was fun.
After it we rode back to Skardu and booked the same hotel again.

Had two issues at the moment.
Usman's bike missing was still there so went out and consulted with a mechanic who after spending some time pointed us to another "bara" mechanic. That bara mechanic just like me didn't get the issue and decided to go all in and open the carb. Well we removed the fuel tank and voila, there was one wire off from its grip on coil. Put it back on and bike was back to its normal self. Much happier reutrned back to hotel only to find Imtiaz had upset stomach since he had that Chicken Qorma from Khaplu. Gave him the usual Falgyl and hoped he'll be better by tomorrow.

Tomorrow's plan was to get to Astore via Deosai route and we still had no confirmation if the route was open yet. As per locals, still there was no traffic from that side.

Even though route wasn't confirmed, i was in no mood to go back via Gilgit-Skardu road.
So next morning, we packed our stuff and left for Astore via Deosai route.

Obviously our first stop was the beautiful Sadpara lake.

Little ahead of lake, we were stopped at this point for entry and stuff. Staff there told us they have seen a Jeep or two coming from the other side which was very encouraging for us.

And we continued towards Deosai, enjoying the scenery

Bike Trip to Gilgit Khunjerab and Skardu June 2015 -1690791

As we continued towards Deosai, it became evident that it's not gonna be easy to climb. It was one hell of inclination upwards.
Soon i shifted from 3rd to 2nd, and soon after that 2nd to 1st and hell there came some points where i felt that GS "abhi ruki ke abhi ruki" but thank god it kept crawling in 1st and never came to a full stop at any point.

Bike Trip to Gilgit Khunjerab and Skardu June 2015 -1690793

But after riding for 15 minutes, i stopped at a point and looked back and my friends were nowhere to be found.
So i waited and waited and after 10 minutes of wait when i was thinking to go back, i saw them approaching. On inquiry i came to know that the climb proved too much for the bikes and at one point bikes simply came to a full stop and would just not move ahead.
Only those who has been on this road can understand the situation.

So It was going all fun and nice when we started noticing long patches of endless mud as the snow was freshly melt and all the water was still on tracks. Now this wasn't good. It was too cold up there and then all that mud was proving too much. But there was no choice but to go ahead. It was hours and hours of mud and the fear that at one point we might see a dead end with snow blocking the track.
And my servis cruiser also wasn't helping at all.

At some points after crossing mud patches i even had to come back to push Usman's bike to get it through the mud.

But still we had our fun moments in between.

We continued to Shausar lake hoping it will get better from there.
It took us around 5 hours just to cross the plains and get to the lake.
We arrived at the lake around 4 pm and Astore will still long way to go.

Yup, that's right. The lake was still covered in snow as well. But it was a damn beautiful scene.

It was getting late so we left from there and rushed towards Astore.
Had to cross some deep water streams on the road to Astore.
It was total dark when we arrived at Astore so just found a Hotel and settled in.
Usman was dead tired and so was I. And imtiaz with his upset stomach was feeling even worse.
Now all that left was to visit Rama lake and the go back via Naran-Kaghan route. Oh well.....

Next morning, discussed with friends and all they wanted was to get back to ISL from then ON.
They were too tired and this was it for the trip.

So agreed to majority vote, i quit the idea of Rama lake and we packed stuff and left back for Chilas.

Getting back on KKH at Astore junction...
