Default Travel Gurus Please suggest Best Route to Deosai and landmarks on the way

We are planning to travel Just after monsoon, first two weeks of September to visit Deosai Plains We will have 8~9 Holidays in Hand.

Travel Gurus Please suggest Best Route to Deosai and landmarks on the way -1602500

I had a couple of questions to ask to travel gurus to help out sort the best route and all visitable locations on that route with in given time.

Initially we did little googling in PW and found many threads relating to this route I did noticed and ranasherdil and asifcae and many other pro travelers have guided very welll..

so aftrer hopping around few threads this is the first CRUDE Draft of Plan:

Day 1 Saturday: 5 Sept -> Lahore to Balakot whole Day ride and rest in Balakot any hotel (suggestions are welcome)

Day 2 SUNDAY: 6 Sept -> Balakot to Chillas (or ca we go ahead will we have enuf time if we leave bala kot early morning ?)

Day 3 Monday: 7 Sept -> Chillas to Astore 150 KM ( few threads indicate its Offroad around 60+ km rama lake 10KM, other then rama lake any other spot to visit in this route ? if we are unable to reach astore in time which place would be best to stay at night ? )

Day 4 Tuesday: 8 Sept -> Astore to DeoSai spend day at deosai reach and rest in sakrdu in time (120 KM offroad Jeep track) rest at Sakardu, but we have absolutly no idea which places to visit in deosai, all I read in a thread is that there is a sheosar lake, but any plaec else then please giude..

Day 5 Wednesday: 9 Sept -> Visit to Kanchar Jheel near sakrdu round-trip back to KKH Rest at RaiKot or Chilas {200KM approx} as I notice approx 200KM long off road track will it be cover able in a day ? if we are unable to finish it which are the spots where we can spend night ? what other destinations are in this route which we can visit?

Day 6 Thursday # 10th Sept -> Buffer DAY becuase I am sure we will slip late one day so its undecided might be consumed in Day 5 plan ? or what you guys suggest ?

Day # 7 Friday 11th Sept -> We shud reach Balakot in time as a whole week is about to top up...

Day # 8 Saturday 12th Sept - > we shud be in Islamabad and drain "THE THAKAWAT"

Day # 9 Sunday 13th Sept -> Reach Lahore and rest (6 hours non speedy Lazy ride)

    - We all will be riding standard Daily comuting motorcycles, including CG, GS, Piaggios, GD e.t.c..
    - Will carry all tools and parts which can keep the bikes vital signs up.
    - Will back up petrol in case of petrol unavailabilty
    - No Plans for camping/Fishing basically sight seeing week long ride.
    - Almost all will be first timers to go baltistan

Other then the questions I asked above few questions banging in my head are:

    - Is pillion Riding OK any one travelled pillion ?
    - Threads suggest 2k per day on average for hotelling and stay expenses and around 30~35liter of petrol for a bike, Is it for peak Season or offseason (not talking about petrol but living exp)

    Suggestions are wellcome ...

    Cool

    Vicky bhai saab salaam,

To be honest, i am not sure myself of the road conditions and weather during Sept.

I will ask a close relo, who is based in the area and get bak to you as soon as he lets me know.

Sept tour, sound really fantastic. 9 days hmmmmm interesting... very Tempting... is this an open tour or Closed GROUP tour????? if open i could be tempted to join... however have a few projects i want to complete these before going on another tour...

I will get back to you when i get a response from relo.

    salaams

Insanity hits sober riders again and again in past. Now it seems sober riders are going to hug insanity. Wish you very best of luck for that. I would suggest you not to spend much time on roads. Save your time to enjoy the place which is your destination to visit. Below are my suggestion and comments:

Day 1 Saturday: 5 Sept -> Try to cover this distance on 4th Sep night travel till Abbotabad or Mansehra. Have rest for 4 to 5 hours and you will be able to reach Chillas or at least till Lulusar on 5th Sep and stay there in any hotel.

Day 2 SUNDAY: 6 Sept -> start your travel early and you will be able to reach deosai or start travel on a normal time you will be able to reach Astore.

Day 3 Monday: 7 Sept -> You can leave your luggage at hotel in astore as you will return on same road. Go to Rama lake early morning. At Rama Meadows and Rama Lake spend your time there, park your bikes where track ends at Rama Lake and a few minutes further hick will take you to the glacier (if its still frozen in September). You can enjoy a lot of time there. After that come to Astore.

Day 4 Tuesday: 8 Sept -> Start your travel around 7 and you will be at Sheosar lake around 1pm or a little earlier may be. I would suggest to stay a night there or at Bara Pani (If tents are vacant there). Otherwise go straight to Skardu.

Day 5 Wednesday: 9 Sept -> Where is the Kanchar Jheel? May be you are talking about Kachura Lake at Shangrila. I would suggest you to spend one day at skardu and visit Khaplu and Manthokha and shigar desert.

Day 6 Thursday # 10th Sept -> Start travel early morning around 6 from Skardu-Gilgit Road and you will be at Chillas easily by 5 pm max.

Day # 7 Friday 11th Sept -> You can make it till Mansehra or Abbottabad by evening otherwise Balakot is easy approach by 4pm.

Day # 8 Saturday 12th Sept - > I would suggest to run and reach lahore on this day and rest next full day to release "THE THAKAWAT"

    - Pillion Riding: from Chillas side to Babusar top, last 4 to 5 kilometers are tough with two up. From Chillum to Sheosar a few off road turns are tough with two up. Rest all is fine.

    - Expenses: 2k per night for hotel is reasonable at any spot (Except Deosai camp rent). For petrol consumption, calculate you motorbike average and divide it by total kilometers and multiply with petrol price.

    - Road Conditions: While going to Babusar Top from Lulusar Lake, Its just 10 km offroad max. After Babusar Top to Chillas road is very good condition (Some patches will be under construction may be). From Chillas to Raikot Bridge road is fine. One can take speed at 70 to 80 easily. From Raikot onward road is A+ grade. The point where you turn to Astore from KKH, road is average. You can not say offroad but borken road till Chillum Chowki. Road to Rama Meadows is fine but ahead to Rama Lake its offroad track about 3kilometer. After Chillum Chowki to Deosai Road is good for about 8 to 10 kilometers but before 3 to 4 kilometer of Sheosar Lake offroad starts till you find descending track to Sadpara Lake. From there onward road is good. Road is good to Shigar, Shangrila, Khaplu, Manthokha falls etc. From Skardu to KKH, the road is narrow same as from KKH to Astore but its more in good condition. Some parts are broken but one can reach from Skardu to Chillas in a day time travelling.

    - Points in Deosai: Deosai is a huge plateau. There is no other place to visit except plateau. If you have time then stop your bikes and start walking off the track and you will be ready to lost in silent nature. There are two points, Chota Pani & Bara Pani. These are actually bridges for crossing rivers. These points are on the track. You will find tents on rent at Sheosar lake and after a few kilometers of Sheosar lake and at Bara Pani.

Let me know if I missed anything to answer.

Vicky Bhai, better to visit in last week of September and first week of October. You will get true colors of Autumn in GB.

Chillas is not a fav place for any of traveler/explorer. So I think you should reconsider staying at Chillas. Option can be: stay at Jhalkhad on Day-1 or 2 and move to Skardu or Astore on next morning from Jhalkhad. Jhalkhad to Chillas will not take more than 3 hours on average speed via Babusar Top.

Deosai is a plan, attraction like lake is only one on the track, other than that there are some off track lakes too. But real sight seeing is plane area. YOU PROBABLY need a night stay there in Deosai (camp)

Best practice would be to keep a complete day for return to Jhalkhad OR Chillas. You will not be enjoying sites while having return target of Chillas or JhalKhad. Further if you plan to return to Jhalkhad, you MUST reach chillas before 40 PM, its the last time allowed to cross Babusar Top.

-Pillion is considerable if no other option, but then you need tires in really GREAT conditions. As tires get old, they become stiff and with pillion they are more vulnerable while off-road-ing.
-2K is really subjective and depends totally on your choices and budget. In September, I can guess min of 500 for Hotel+Food. Max has no Max
    Do it before you die.

Well, I was not talking about Batakundi, but Jalkhad. In Jalkhad, you will not find any reasonable hotel rather hotel for night stay. You will have to rely on camps. In case you decide to carry camp, you can use the same in Deosai.
Otherwise if you plan hoteling only, then there are some quite reasonable hotels in vicinity of Batakundi and Burawai ( not inside Batakundi or Burawai ).

Leaving early in the morning can help you to reach Astore. In recent trip in July 2015, we travelled from Balakot to Hunza in a day, while leaving Balakot at 8:30 am ( Yes !!! it was early in the morning for many of us , although we all woke up at 4: 00 am). BUT real issue is road from Chillas to Raikot Bridge. It is a virtual road these days or better called proxy-road ( and in views of few members from recent trip, it was Road-To-Kabul ), this patch of ~50Km looks like 500Km and feels like road in hell and makes you realize that you evolved from mud and dust

You can do it, if you just sacrifice your while-travelling-site-seeing.
    Do it before you die.
