This route i disliked most in my entire trip. Perhaps we all were enjoying new Karakuram Highway and this route from Karamkuram Hw to Astor is mostly unpaved. Moreover, we climbed from 1300m to 2400m in 50KM till Astor as well and the entire route till Astor is surrounded with high rocky mountains. The Astor River is also flowing along this route which then falls in Indus River. I recommend to cross this patch in morning time or with maximum daylight as the route passes through height and sharp curves which requires slow speed.

Totally agree with u Izhar Bhai,

I visited Astore in 1988 first time and that time road was in horrible condition. Pakistan Army built this road first time and this road is still need to development as this road is still boring, unpaved and dangerous. We also felt inconvenient during recent traveling towards Astore & Rama. You can't drive speedily on this track but when you reach near Rama and see the beauty of surrounding like Heaven on the earth you forget all the difficulties. Am I correct??

    Regards,

    Regards,
Exactly, we noticed Army's movement in long queues on this route. The reason is that this road lead to Army's Astor HQ Chillam and MiniMerg HQ (near Kargil). There were Polo festival on Rama these days so Astor was full with visitors and vehicles and Army was busy in arrangements at Deosai as Polo final was planned to be played there in presence of Army Chief etc. as chief guest.

A resident of Astor suggested us to visit Rama "wahan maila laga hua hai" we said "hum mailay se bhaag kar tau idhar aai hain" so we skipped Rama due to rush, and headed to Deosai :-)

Our plan was to spend night at Deosai and next day to Skardu. Since there is no petrol pump in this route so we filled up the tanks. After having lunch and some rest started the journey we all liked the most. Though we had to climb from 2400ft to 4200ft (1800ft height in 70km distance) but the route was full of eye catching views. We enjoyed greenish surrounding, gushing river, thick clouds, high mountains tops covered with snow and above all pleasant weather in summer.

The bike riding pays you back when you start enjoying such an amazing nature.

It's time to share Blunders (Lesson Learnt)

All were asked to ensure original NIC and bike copy with them as it is difficult to move in these areas without Documents due to security and other reasons.
At Rawalpindi hotel booking receptionist asked my NIC which was supposed to be returned/collected on departure in the morning. I forgot to collect my NiC and realized it at Abbotabad. Since it was not possible to return to Rawalpindi to collect NIC so we decided to continue journey without it, luckily I had a photo copy of my NIC in pocket.

At Hotel in Skardu I was unable to find my Motorbike's Documents in bag and when I contacted at Home, they told YES documents are intact Home hahahha... :-)

Phir kuch baqi nahi raha siwai duaon kay, so we kept moving and when checkpost guys asked for Identity to register we tried to present one member from us to convey our NIC numbers and bikes info etc..

We said by some pro bikers that Chilam Choki (Controlled by Army) would not be easy to cross without NIC & Bike's Documents but luckily the soldiers at Chilam Choki were happy to find us from Lahore (as two soldiers were from R. A. Bazar). Upon providing copy of my NIC the soldier at register was somewhat reluctant due to presence of Major sb, but Major sb was very kind to us and were sharing his experience at Lahore posting, he allowed to enter info based upon my original driving license...Oooooghf

Then we allowed to cross Chillam to fullfill our dream of visiting Deosai.

So guys my entire tour was without NIC and Bike's copy but it was just a Luck and bit tricks except at 2-3 check-posts who asked individually for registration. I could be held/stuck at any point but couldn't just because of in group and presence of my brother (as identity).

    Chillam to Sheosar Lake

While clearance at Chilam Choki two other bikes allowed to cross before us and we noticed that they are striving to climb. The reason is that there is steep height toward Deosai. The Sheowar is just 15km from Chillam but is almost 2500ft high. The bikes were heating up and we had to stop after covering short distance.

    Lahore to Deosai -1636208

We were continuously fighting with height, suffocation and fatigue, but while climbing a slop appeared with immense beauty of Sheosar Lake that relieved all our pain. At first sight one would not be able to believe on such an amazing beauty (Subhanallah).
