Default Sober Riders visit Khunjerab: The adventurous way (via Nori Pass)

Hello Guys so a week back we returned from an amazing journey from noori pass and khunjerab, the tour was full of Adventure and some life threatening events.
But with the blessings of Allah and dua of parents we returned home safe and sound with life time experience of riding offroad.

Sober Riders visit Khunjerab The adventurous way via Nori Pass -1713134

As usual we all sober riders applied for annual leaves planned accordingly so every one can join in, we also met @travel-pole and took feed back about nori pass which he explained on the scale of risk and high climb as 10/10.

So we started to plan and prepare accordingly.

This time the bikers league in sober riders increase more then a dozen and we were 16 Riders in total. Initially we thought we will create pairs or groups and further sub divide people so it can be managed easily and it really helped.

We met Hunza people, we met wakhani people, we met chinese, spanish, swedish, dutch people.. we had a blast of happiness!!!

The purpose of this thread is to narrate new riders how fun it can be to ride in north and how to be safe and well prepared for any mis-hap ... I would be sharing the story with picture and some deadly high climbs videos here and I hope you guys would like it.

meray pass motorolla k walkie talkie hain, and they work really good... mountains men ap ka concern theek hai k unki comunication reduce ho jaye gee but still they can be handy..

but ajkal walkie talkie lay ker travel kerny k liye u need a AMCP (Amature Radio Club of Pakistan) ki member ship or licsense to cary such device werna terrorist consider kiye jo ***..

bluetooth/wifi are lousy in open areas and hardly cover a couple of hundred yards ..

SCOM/Zong is best but that also fades out after 165km track on noori..

If you are looking for devices similar to walkie-talkies, Motorolla used to make some sets with ranges up to five kilometers (in plain areas). But these might not give you good reception when the two devices are separated by hilly areas. Same is the case with wifi / bluetooth devices, which I believe have very limited coverage areas. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Good luck!

Great. Thanks for the above update.

In my personal experience, I have noticed SCOM working in almost all of Neelum valley, whereas all our local mobile operators go dudd after crossing Muzaffarabad.

Default Day#3 Rest Day at Jhalkad

We descended with fresh morning to jhalkad, the trek was pretty easy in comparison to what we faced from sharda, and was quite beautiful and mesmerizing, it took hardly 2 hours to move from noori top to jhalkad base for the rocket riders but for snail riders like me it took a little more.. her paanch minute bad tu sight seeing yad ajati thee

I saw blue flower carpets, red flower carpets...

the whole place was in full swing, also enjoyed the rain on the way, but as the lesson was learnt the hard way this time I was riding in full kit now so "in real" enjoyed it instead of getting a shiver attack again

when we reached Jhalkad, XL125 was already on the jeep with the broken back bone so nadeem sahab along his trail went to naran to get it welded again..

Young lads who were first time to North also decided to go naran and "chill out" a little...

while we old drum rolls decided to relax and release all the "thakawat" and camp for night stay...

    Default Day#3 Jhalkad stay

Instead of Deploying our own camps, we found out that the fares of the camps already deplyed by the hotel were quite cheap so we decided to rent to Big camps and spent a warm night there.

Food was basic, but it was not bad at all.

We started to buckle up early in the morning so that we can catch up our plan ...

Default Day#4 - Tour-1 Ends - Tour 2: The Sprint to Hunza - and camping at Eagles Nest

@jigzKorner, his cousin and Mr Hassan left for Lahore as they only had limited vacations, While we camped at Jhalkad.

    The Next Day (4) #

Nadeem was back from naran with boys who chilled at naran and he got his XL125 ready to take on KKH.

We buckled up and started to fly towards babusar in packs.

First team to leave was kashi and boys... and off course I being the laziest was the last to dispatch

We re-assemble at Chillas, boys again switched to harder gear ratios and changed the sprockets for high speed traveling.

And then we 13 bikes charged the KKH.

I cant forget the moment when @vickytulla , @kashi.khan were in the middle of way at around 1 am and were shivering like hell.
We were getting heat from running engines and exhausts.
But the next morning was so pleasant that we forgot all the things and started to enjoy everything.Sober Riders visit Khunjerab: The adventurous way (via Nori Pass) - 105fb6f7f94e638b820985627caf8e67

and one more thing by reading your half of journey one can tell that having a bike isn't mean that we are good riders until we know the mechanics of the bike.
Good learning for the first Timers bcz of seniors like you.
can you grade the all the bike by there performance?
    Thanks

well all bikes crashed at least one time... bikes usually crash due to human error.

Id you are asking about break down, then it was XL125 who's frame was broken on noori top due to extreme off-road conditions and 30 years old bike..

The altered / engine upgraded bikes had no issue at all.. also the 150cc GS also kept on pushing, only 125cc class bikes showed signs of getting heavily exhausted.

125cc (any bike) is a bad choice for extreme off roading and if that is coupled with a novice rider is a big mistake.

We roamed around Karimabad visited both forts did local shopping went to Cafe De' Hunza

    Worth seeing#

    1 - Altit & baltit Fort
2 - Cafes (Huna and few others)
3 - Eagles Nest Mountain Ridge (it is not necesory to stay at Eagles nest hotel in order to visit the ridge)
4 - Early Morning or evening view of Golden Peak
    5 - Dawn/Dusk View of Rakaposhi
    6 - Lady Finger Peak
7 - The Old cultural rich village is worth a visit and if you are with family you will be welcomed with both arms open.
8 - Eat Musli, Walnut cake, walnut is dirt cheap and super tasty
9 - You wont see a "Kala kaolu" as you see it there, the original Hunza kala kaolu Apple is is more then just appetizing.
10 - This List can increase.. oh yeshh.. Chopshuru.. (the local pizza as they say it)

It was hassan!

My heart shruinked like I have never experienced that fear before... in a split second I instantly grabbed stones which were firm and fastened with river floor and started to go in fast water and spread my both arms towards him..

Luckily his leg came into my hand I sqeezed my fingers in his legs.. I knew I only have this chance to save him or we might lose a friend here..

as soon as halted his rolling in water he instanly gained his body control and started to plunge out of fast stream towards the bank..

taha came beind me and dragged us both out..

The whole bikers clan was shocked that we just had a near death experience...
@taha66 pulling hassan out of fast stream while I am cornering him with the stone slightly visible on the right..
