    On our way back Malik sahib we might take a different route. It can be Chillas to Babusar to Naran to Mansehra. This is a shorter and scenic route with steeper gradient.

    Just a few pointers from my trip last year (third week of June, 2008).

    1. Take warm clothing with you, when I rode to Khunjerab from Sost (19th June), it was almost freezing at Khunjerab Pass, till around 11:30am, then it became a bit brighter and the temperature rose to around 10° C. Preferably, take T-shirts that you can put on one over the other. In case you don't need to wear all of them at once, you won't regret bringing the extra weight.
    2. Take a two-piece rain suit, you can wear it on top, for both rain and cold.
    3. Must take a couple of puncture mending sets. A good cycle pump is more dependable, although the foot-pump is easier, but less dependable after being used once. ( If a car is with the group, better arrange an electric pump and large tyre-irons.)
    4. Start the day early, give yourself more daylight time.
    5. Take sun-block cream with you and use it.
    6. Use gloves, full sleeves and full helmets. Use sun-glasses.
    7. Take extra care on Sost-Khunjerab-Sost part, there is no shop/hotel, hospital, workshop or puncture shop.
    8. On hot routes, take rest and fluids at regular intervals.

    You are not covering a lot of distance per day (most of the days), so some lost time can be easily covered, still, I would suggest that you try to cover more distance on the first two days, and then decide about the rest of the trip. Something like:
    Day1: Pindi to Besham (7hrs)
    Day2: Besham to Gilgit (7-8hours)
    Then decide whether to stay at Hunza (Ali-abad/Karimabad) the next day or on return from Khunjerab.
    (These are just suggestions)

    By the way, my trip was like this:
    Day 1: Abbottabad to Chilas. (10hrs, road maintenance, hot to very hot)
    Day 2: Chilas to Skardu. (8hrs, the most difficult day, burning-hot)
    Day 3: Skardu to Deosai to Skardu. (OK, one day lost due to puncture and the foot-pump not working)
    Day 4: Skardu to Deosai to Astore to Gilgit. (OK)
    Day 5: Gilgit to Sost. (5½hrs, slightly hot for about an hour as I started late, then OK)
    Day 6: Sost to Khunjerab to Sost to Karimabad. (started at 6:30 am, freezing near/at Khunjerab, otherwise OK)
    Day 7: Karimabad to Gilgit to Chilas. (OK till Nagar, hot till Gilgit, very hot till Chilas)
    Day 8: Chilas to Babusar to Naran. (OK, cool at Babusar)
    Day 9: Naran to Abbottabad. (OK, a bit hot from Balakot to Mansehra)
    Can't give the time for days when there were many stops.
    Some pictures can be seen in my picasa album at:

    @Libra
    My personal favorite place to stay after my tent is PTDC where ever possible. In Passu Hotel Ambassador is the best and economical. In Gulmit there is a pretty new hotel whose name I am forgetting. Lodging of all kinds are available suiting all budgets. Average rent of PTDC motels averages around 1500 per room. Looking forward to seeing you on a motorbike.

    @khanmomar
    Thanks for the info... i will be coming on Pajero and your rules says "Only Bikes" I might meet you at the Pass
    I will be staying in that area for a week to see the surrounding areas

    Passengers in my Pajero are not confirmed yet. It might be a family trip, with PW members or Lata, Rafi and Mehndi Hassan
