Shanghai GM One Millionth Vehicle Key Handover Ceremony
Shanghai-GM have seen explosive growth in the Chinese market over the past two years, which has made it the king of the Chinese auto market despite its turning fortunes in its own home market. GM has become the first car marker in China to sell one million vehicles in a single year. The lucky one millionth customer was Shanghai resident Mr. Zhang Yun who received the keys to his Buick Lacrosse sedan earlier this week from Shanghai-GM President Mr. Ding Lei.
The first Shanghai-GM vehicle rolled off the production line 12 years ago and now encompasses the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands being produced in China. Shanghai-GM revived the Buick brand and made it into something that resonated well with younger drivers rather than being the stable of silver haired drivers as in the USA. Sales between brands can be split into 500,000 Buicks, 490,000 Chevrolets and 16,000 Cadillacs.
From 2010 onwards Shanghai-GM will be investing heavily into greener technologies such as turbo charged engines and direct injection technology which provide more power with less displacement and gains more pleasure from the end consumer.
“We appreciate the support that the people of China have given us,” said Terry Johnsson, Shanghai GM Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “Backed by the resources of our parent companies, Shanghai GM has been an industry pioneer. Shanghai GM and our employees remain committed to offering an unmatched shopping and ownership experience for car buyers nationwide.”
