Owners search for registration papers of burnt, missing buses
KARACHI: The Karachi Transport Ittehad’s (KTI) general secretary, Syed Mahmood Afridi, said that many of the owners of the buses, forcefully taken away in the name of hiring, were pleading to get their documents back. At least six mini buses were set on fire on May 12, and the buses and other vehicles forcefully taken away in the name of ‘hiring’ have yet to receive the ‘fare’. On the night before May 12, hundreds of buses, coaches, trucks, trailers and other vehicles were taken away by force and were later used to ferry the participants of the rallies. A few were also used to block different roads. “We have been informed by the bus owners that at least six were set on fire,” Afridi said. “The [people in charge of a political party] came to us and said that they needed buses... and they discussed rent, but the bus owners are still searching for them,” he said, adding that these party leaders had also taken away the licenses and the registration documents with them. These men have disappeared and provided fake cellular numbers. staff report
