Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Thirteen cars and five motorbikes were stolen from different areas of Islamabad last week despite heavy presence of police and other law-enforcement agencies to deal with the possible backlash of military operation against the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa.
Four cars were stolen from the urban areas of the capital in a day. Two cars were stolen from Margalla, one from Aabpara and one from the Industrial Area. Sixteen houses were also burgled in the capital during this period.
The performance of city police to recover stolen goods is not up to the mark, as during the last two weeks city police failed to trace the culprits involved in incidents of robbery, burglary and theft.
Keeping in view the increase in crime rate, the media section of Islamabad police is issuing press releases on a regular basis painting a rosy picture of the law and order situation in the capital. This tactic is being used to make the residents feel safe and secure.
In order to improve the performance of city police and ensure rule of law in the capital, the Interior Ministry has decided to send city police officials from the rank of assistant sub inspector (ASI) to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) to other provinces and bring in police from other provinces, especially from Punjab, on deputation for a period of three years.
