Logistics is a complex business. Its about time the Government has recognized it as an industry.
From the time the goods are manufactured till the reach their destination, freight forwarding is involved exclusively and trucking is an essential component of logistics, along with Shipping, Train Freight, Air Freight etc. Without an organized truck freight handling and shipment, you loose alot in terms of time and money.
Once you delay a shipment to an international customer, one of the reason being Trucker's disorganization, they will never return, and the country looses valueable Foreign Exchange.
The government should also facilitate the Trucking industry by introducing new Makes and Models of trucks, multi axel, 18 wheelers. Also, join international Logistics corporations, like Ryder Corporation of US, and many others, acquire their technical expertise, their software, and train the local manforce abroad, on how to dispatch a load, pack a truck with international regulations in mind, maintain the optimum loading, how to regulate a fleet, financing a fleet, organzing a trucking company, etc. Alot is involved in Logistics business.
So far in Pakistan, most of our trucking industry is run by individuals who have no idea about International Trade, shipment, what it means to ship a JIT material or an HAZMAT shipment. You need to train them with international standards. You need to have these B.COM guys and business degree holders in place to run these Trucking companies on international standards, if you want Pakistan to compete internationally.
NLC is a good organization, they need to organized all the trucking industry on NLC model, plus incorporate other international standards and business models in this newly form Trucking industry.
They need to have a new name, trucking industry is too broad. Logistics and freight forwarding Organization or something like that would be better.
