LAHORE: The Interior Ministry will buy bulletproof cars and explosive device jammers worth Rs 660 million for the security of national and international dignitaries, an inter-provincial coordination committee meeting in Islamabad decided on September 28.
Federal Interior Minister, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, chaired the meeting. The bulletproof cars and jammers would cost Rs 15 million each, sources said. Another source claimed the jammers had already been bought.
The federal and Punjab governments would get six jammers and six bulletproof cars while Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan governments would get four cars and jammers each. The president and the prime minister already have bulletproof cars but travel outside the capital is a problem. Provincial governors and chief ministers would also be given bulletproof cars. Provincial home secretaries, inspectors general of police, intelligence officers and the federal interior secretary, attended the meeting. The next committee meeting will be held on October 13.
