Crime rate has registered a rise as an average of 42 vehicles are being snatched or stolen every day in the city, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anti Car-Lifting Cell (ACLC) Dr Amin Yousuf Zai while addressing a press briefing on Thursday.
The SSP said that an ACLC team had arrested 20 car lifters from various parts of the city and recovered 15 cars, five motorcycles, one dumper, five TT pistols and two kilogrammes of drugs from their possession.
The suspects identified as Mohan Lal and Bilawal were arrested from near Abdullah College and a car (ABF-966) and a dumper (KTV-496) were recovered from their possession.
Another ACLC team arrested Muhammad Zeeshan, Muhammad Nadeem, Irfan Shafiq, Hakim Ali, Shahnawaz and Ali Zaman and recovered five vehicles (ABW-211, APN-184, CK-5479, ABH-268 and AFF-966) and a motorcycle (KCV-240) from them.
Yet another ACLC team arrested Nasir Niazi, Allah Bukhsh, Asif Khan, Ali Mast, Shafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Shahid, Shahid Hussain, Muhammad Saleem, Sikanderi Ashraf, Malik Sohail Ahmed and Muhammad Asif from various parts of the city and recovered six vehicles (CS-5082, D-7917, ANV-287, AKT-609, G-9986, AKR-861) and three motorcycles (KDK-4782, LXG-2947 and LOX-5598) from their possession.
During initial interrogation the suspects confessed to have snatched and stolen hundreds of vehicles from various parts of the city and disposed of the same in Balochistan.
