Default Nissan Sunny 1985 B11 carbeurator issues

    Salam all,

I have a Nissan Sunny B11 (1985), we have this car since it was zero meter. It has always been a solid and trustworthy car
Been using CNG for the past 8 years and was driven on petrol on very few occasions since CNG installation. Now when i try to use it on petrol it gives black smoke and consumes a LOT of petrol averaging around 5kmpl.
I took it to two mechanics and both were not able to solve the issue, one of them told me that the mixture is faulty and we need to replace the carbeurator.

Now it is pretty difficult to get a new carbeurator and i dont really know if it really needs to be changed or the mechanics are simply ignorant. Can some one please help me with it. let me know if i need to post some pictures or what.

The car has done 185000 kms. (we dont use it a lot) The engine required overhaul once at 165000 kms. and it was running smooth after that but this carbeurator is now messed up for no apparent reason. It drives smoothly on CNG.

Ive been seeing a lot of carburettor threads lately - mostly because of lack of CNG now,

My point is that have mechanics forgotten what a carburettor is - and are completely aloof on setting it up.

True that mate. Both of the mechanics i took it to are famous in their respective areas and any engine problem they would get to the root cause in a jiffy.
But to watch them working on a carbeurator is like watching a 5 year old tearing apart a remote controled car and then not knowing how to put it all back in

they are not mechanics - they are parts fitters then.

There never were many good carburettor mechanics to start with, let alone some of them have forgotten to fiddle with it!

Anyway, you got to find one who specifically deals with carburettors, if, that is the culprit in the first place!!

@poster What I recall (8-10 yr back) our 1985 Sunny 1000cc used to do 6-8 Km in city.

The car have big body with small engine so its mileage is poor.

I want to do engine swap in 1985 Nissan Sunny, originally 1.0 engine was replaced with CD17 Diesel engine some 7 years back. CD17 (Diesel) had excellent pick and economy, but recently it is not going good basically due to a mechanic messed up the engine overhaul.

Now I am thinking of getting a 1.3 Petrol engine ..... Suggestions Pls .... Carbi or EFI ?

Any additional impact due to double engine swap ?

I have a similar problem with my civic 89. It belches out black smoke when on petrol. That is due toan extremely fuel-air mixture. The thing is that the car did that on its old engine and continues to do that even now, though we have replaced the old motor with a D15. Somebody told me that this has got something to do with the cng kit. Since the only thing common left between the past and the present is the cng kit, i think the argument has some logic. I would recommend checking the cng kit. If the problem cant be traced, perhaps changing would be a better solution. This i say because, from my experience, changing the whole engine didnt solve the problem for us.

    Thumbs up

EFI is the technology, check out availability of 1.3 or 1.5 to suit your budget. EFI engines comes with ECU so please choose the engine complete with wiring & ECU
