Well it's just a perception.
We've got QG's or GA's in our cars and no diesel engine can challenge them uphill or downhill. They've such a great combo of torque and horsepower. I only preferred diesel due to one reason when i was having cd20 in my car it had such a strong braking power downhill, i hardly used to burn the brake pads, all i had to do was just downshift and keep going. When i swapped GA and QG my perception went away because these engines were powerful engines they had good braking power due to more engine power plus i became a silence lower as these engines were hardly heard while on idle. It felt they were not even switched on ;idling. So if you are okay with diesel engine noise you can still enjoy Cd20 or cd20t in any chasis greater or equal to b11.
So technology has advanced way beyond our thinking.
Get a QG or GA swapped properly. Run it on petrol with 5 passengers you'll never complain about 2.0D Toyota or 1c and 2c taking your car for granted uphill or downhill. You'll easily smoke any car even if you're a mediocre driver.
So never go for these 1c and 2c alteration, always opt for bolt on swaps and enjoy the smooth and calm drive of car.
Adding to your concern CD20 parts are available. Mostly the things required are timing belt that needs a change after 6-8months long n local driving. And filters and nozzles etc.
Pumps don't fail that often.
Incase of engine eating oil and rings are worn out, the swap is the only cure.
So i drove my CD20 for around 50-70k km with over revving it frequently and it never required any part other than timing belt.
Get a good CD20 if it's available or Get a QG or GA motor you'll enjoy it.
B13-b14 are recommended.
