After the first round of matches, almost all the games were disappointing to watch, except for Germany, which has undoubtedly been the most impressive team with thier performance against Australia. Australia is no slouch either as it is the highest ranked Asian team above South Korea and Japan. The attacking play that Germany played was in complete contrast to their mode of play historically as they are renowned for efficiency rather than attacking beautiful play. But Germany created so many chances with such beautiful play that if their forwards would have been in good form, they could have easily scored 7-8 goals against Australia.
Brazil on the other hand has changed its style under their coach Dunga, who has clearly emphasised that they will play efficient football rather than beautiful football. He has received a lot of criticism over this approach but he has been a bit successful lately. But it's too bad for us fans as this world cup is already proving to be a relatively boring event as all the teams are defense minded, barring Germany, Argentina, and to some extent Netherlands and Ivory Coast.
The credit for this phenominal change in German team performance is credited to their coach Joechem Leow. He's the guy who introduced attacking play in German football along with Klinsmann in last world cup to great success. Germany only lost one match in 2006 world cup and that too in semi-final in extra time against an extremely defensive Italian team, which later became World Champion. Later in 2008, Germany again lost only in the Euro cup final to Spain. The team also lost to Brazil in 2002 world cup final. I feel that now it's their time to win another world cup. At least, on performance up till now, Germany is the most deserving team as they are playing attacking football, which is good to watch.
This also emphasizes the importance of coaches in a football team. French team boasts so many star names, same is the case with England, yet their teams always performs so disappointingly as the players only play for themselves. On the other hand, all the attcking moves made by Germany were due to coach's practice with the team on perfection of certain attacking moves. Spain may play the best football technically, but in the end it's always goals that matter. Or the other way is to play like Italy or France, where you can afford a 0-0 scoreline every game and then rely on your luck to win in extra time or penalties.
