@true eye..have you never ever "wasted money" on something u liked and wanted to buy although you did have a cheaper option.
This has nothing to do with your personal spending. Secondly if you knew me in person, you wouldn’t have made such a statement either. I don’t want to blow my own trumpet here but I’m VERY satisfied with the way I lead my life, MashAllah I have no regrets whatsoever.
if someone has the money he shud spend it the way he wants too..u cant call it wasting.
Then what exactly is zakat? Isn’t it something imposed on us? Should we not say that its our own money we have earned it so why give out alms etc?
this all sounds so hollow.."could well be used in philanthropic activities such as to counter destitution and promote education etc".be practical.have u ever done that?
Yes indeed it does. I have never ever spent my money for any charitable cause not because I don’t want to but because until now my parents have been sponsoring me. It’s a shame, I know, but still I couldn’t complete my studies from a reputable uni without their help. But I have my plans and I sincerely hope that once I start earning my own money, I would spend it the way I want. But don’t get me wrong when I say “spend it the way I want” as by this I mean that I could give out my money in zakat and charitable activities, because it is then that I would be able to say, yes I have earned this money and now I’m spending it the way I want. I don’t want to spend someone else’s (in this case my parent’s) money “the way I want”. Their money is my money I know, but I haven’t strived for that money. I wouldn’t get the satisfaction of spending my parent’s money the way I would spend my own.
Secondly I wouldn’t want to spend my money on some shitty Indian festival even if i have to. I would rather spend my money on Islamic festivals. Happy basant and upcoming valentine's day too from my side, I had just expressed my opinion. Didn’t want to impose it on you or someone else for that matter. cheers
