Thats good news. A Dubai Based group by the name of Kanooz Group is planning to set up Manufacture of Mercedez Truck Engine Plant in Karachi. Karachi is on the roll, as Karachi Port Trust is also building the World's 10th Tallest Building by the name of KPT Tower on Clifton, an areas with atleast 10 other slightly smaller skyscrappers. Karachi will truly be transformed. This news is gonna give COOLI, an Indian Insurgent a heart attack.. LoL

ahash Brother, thanks for giving the article. I also read it in another article in Business Recorder Daily about this a year ago. You how it is in Biz world. They keep all the plans low profile, to keep the competition away, until they have finalized everything and start working on it. So, this maybe their strategy, to keep low, and when they are ready to break the ground with financing and everything arranged, they break the news.

Hopefully soon, we'd hear about their ground breaking ceremony.

Dewan Group, at the time of launching imported BMW vehicles in Pakistan, had announced that they would start assembling BMW from 2006. However, 2006 has arrived and there has been no further news on the issue.
On the other hand, a Dubai based group (Coastal Group, I think, not Kanooz Group, datz! - Kanooz al Watan is Saudi Arabia based) plans to assemble Mercedes-Benz car, trucks and buses in Pakistan. Read the news item below:

KARACHI: A Middle East firm has expressed interest to establish a factory on 1,000 acres of land in Sindh for manufacturing vehicles of Mercedez company.

The company would undertake manufacturing of cars, buses and trucks and offer employment opportunities to 5,000 people.

The project came under discussion during the meeting of a seven-member delegation headed by State Minister for Investment and Privatisation, Umer Ahmed Ghuman, with Sindh Chief Minister Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim at Chief Minister House on Monday. Umer Ahmed Ghuman told the meeting that five hundred people would be imparted specialised training in Dubai prior to their induction in the company.

He further said a Sports City would be constructed in Karachi at a cost of Rs2.5 billion which would be similar to Dubai Sports City. This would be one of the unique cities of Asia in which 50,000 people would get jobs, he added.

Grounds for all sorts of sports would be part of this city in which 13 to 15 large size modern hotels would also be built. The project also envisages construction of 10,000 housing units for poor while 20,000 units would be made for government employees.

Soon after allotment of land for the purpose a team of the company from Dubai would arrive here to initiate work on the mega project within two to three months. - APP

I know its been nearly a decade since this post. But, I can't resist not to reply to this post. Dear datburier, at this moment India has all the big three luxury manufactures.

    1. BMW in Chennai manufactures 1 series, 3 series, 3 series GT, 5 series, 7 series, X1, X3, X5, and Mini cooper Countryman.
    2. Audi in Aurangabad manufactures A3, A4, A6, Q3, Q5, Q7
    3. Mercedes in Pune manufactures C-Class, E-Class, GL-Class, M-Class, S-Class. And Daimler in Chennai manufactures Bharatbenz(trucks, buses), Fuso(Trucks, buses), Mercedes(luxury buses, trucks)

PS: World one under construction in Mumbai will be the tallest residential skyscraper in the world once completed in 2017.

It seems you have neither Mercs, BMW plant nor the world's tenth tallest building yet. But yeah, it gave me a mild heart attack after laughing so hard.

I fail to understand purpose of this post! Comparison? That is not what this thread was about. If you have anything related to topic, feel free to share.
Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

I am sorry if it was so offensive. I was made to write that post after some eight years only because I didn't know why Indians are mentioned in a post which is not even remotely connected.
