Default Best ATF fluid for Mercedes 722.6 auto transmissions?

    salam to all pakwheelrs,

I want to change my 97 Merc C180, 722.6 trans ATF, don't know what previous owner used, searching best atf for it, 236.10 specs.
Mercedes genuine atf is available at shahnawaz but very expensive almost 3000/L, other shops selling but don't know is it 1 or 2 no, many other brands available & approved 236.10 specs exp MEGUIN, VAICO LIQUI-MOLY all made in germany, at reasoable price, these brands are available from there orignal importers but don't know about performance, INH also selling VAICO but don't know about it.

Want advice from experts what will be best, what they using, especially from zulfiqar bhai.

the 236.10 datenblatt (data sheet) is old spec, you can substitute it to 236.12 which has FUCHS Titan 3353 ATF, it should be cheaper than OE mb fluid - which should be 20 USD/lit

the FUCHS should retail close to USD 10/lit - and you need about 8 litres, a new filter, pan gasket - if the connector sleeve is leaking you need a new one and make sure the electrics plate is good - otherwise you need to change that too. btw you need to get a dipstick tool or make one yourself to measure fluid level.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE DEX3 in it.

Be careful with the dipstick cover lock, dont break it, new one would be Rs 100 or something though.

looks good on paper - be sure to get a reciept from the seller and ask where he gets this from, send an email to ask the original distributor just for safety sake.

get new plastic bushings for the select lever too, the original would be crumbled or missing by now.

yep - good to go, please be very dead on sure that you measure the level of ATF while the engine is running and the transmission temperature is atleast 80*C - the manual recommends to use a thermosensor dipped in the trans, To be safe check it after driving the car really hard for 30 minutes.

You can make the dipstick tool with some stiff pipe or even some nylon wrapped thick speedo meter or control cable, its supposed to be 1220mm long - longer if you wish as its supposed to bottom out and the leading edge marks should be at 10 and 20 mm for cold and 56-66mm for warm. Only test the level at the warm side - cold side is downright silly.

the mid life 202 came with both 722.5 and 722.6 boxes - nice that you have a 722.6 - its a very strong trans.
