    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

Do you have power steering or the non-powered one? If it is powered, most probably the belt is producing that sound and it also make steering hard. If it is non-powered one and the steering feels hard in both directions and alignment is fine, the rack needs to be opened and lubricated + greased. If the boot is torn, it will need replacement so that in future no dust particles can enter the rack.

The choon choon sound can be of engine foundation as you know that there is some flexibility (in mm) in the frame when the steering is fully turned. You can check the problem by asking someone to turn the steering fully and looking at various parts for the exact problem.

My father gave our 93 model daewoo racer to me after using it for 9 years. He used to take the car to Federal Autos, I-10, until the death of its owner. Since Then it has been to a Mr. Khalid near Dalda Factory in I-9 and New Friends Autos in Gulreiz (mechanics from the Fedral Autos).
The engine was overhauled six months ago and since then its in my possession. With the engine being new and all, it neither gives a good mileage nor accelerates like a daewoo should. I have tuned the car, got the CNG kit serviced, changed the spark plugs, changed the distributor leads etc. etc. but to no avail. The mechanics don't see any fault in it (probably because they were the ones who overhauled it...)

Kindly guide me as to what can I do... I am at a loss.

The pick is not good (better than CNG, but still...) and the mileage is still high. All I managed was 60km in about 9 litres...

Plus the engine rpm is max at about 115 km/hr (Petrol & CNG, both) in the 4th gear (transmission has never been tinkered with, and there is quite a difference between the 1st and 2nd gear ratios)...

oh, and if I over exert the engine, like taking the car at 60km/hr in the 2nd gear, the pick is good from 50 km/hr to 60km/hr, with the engine thundering...

    1. Its hard to comment, You may wana look into the timing advance first and then maybe into pressure/clutch plate condition (less likely problem)

    2. But it seems better to consult 2/3 other woo mechanics for the engine/head.

    Did you install RPM meter?

If the engine RPM actually goes to max and wheels are not supporting, it is the clutch issue, but strange thing is that the guys at Friends are not able to diagnose....! Did they change gearbox main seal? If the seal is leak, it also cause the clutch to slip due to oil entering the clutch assembly.

If you don't have RPM meter and you are assuming that RPM goes to max, follow the procedure:
    1. If you have any doubts about the engine, undergo a compression test, if there is some problem, get it back to Friends.
    2. Get the spark plugs/wires checked for any current leakage.
    3. Get the silencer piping + mufflers checked for any possible blockage.
    4. Get the brake equipment checked for any jamming issue.
    4. Finally get the valve timing checked for any problem as there is ±10 degree option for advancing/retarding valve timing. Retard timing is also a major thing regarding sluggish engine pick.

For physical inspection, take your car to Sarfraz @G-10 I&T Centre.(0333-5101486)
