    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

    Cylinder # 1 = 140 Good
    Cylinder # 2 = 0 piston/connecting rod missing/broken
    Cylinder # 3 = 100 too bad
    Cylinder # 4 = 125 bad

The engine needs to be opened for checking the physical condition of internals. In worst case you might need overhaul.

Gear shifter bushes are rarely available (including the central rubber bush + two plastic bushes). You can ask for its availability from any dealer (consult Page-3 or previous page)

Engine is also backfiring with some smoke.

mechanic said we just to open head only and valves to be replaced. engine is overhauled two month back with problems
    1. no pick
    2. no start on first sulf (engine starts after 3rd or 4th sulf).
    3. heatup
    4. on petrol missing

following items were replaced during last overhaul
    piston (standard size)
    rings
    main begun
    gasket
    leathe machinist work

    final question
    if we only open head
then how many parts to be replaced or available to change,
    might be
    valves
    rockers

    please elaborate it

    A. Are you facing any kind of missing?
    B. Is every spark plug working fine?
    C. How is the performance on petrol?
    D. Do you feel any decrease in pick up?
    E. Any kind of oil consumption cold/hot engine?

    a=yes
    b=yes
c=on petrol pick is also not good
    d=yes, there is no pick
e=oil is getting darker and reducing also, but spark plugs are clear

backfire pipe is producing more air then normal, and some oil is also seen on air cleaner where pipe ends.

Keeping in view the above stated symptoms, I recommend to perform the compression test. There might be some issue with the head/ valve leakage.

    please refer this too

If you can arrange a kabli (not a civil one) head rather than replacing the internal parts, it will be far better.

According to your numbers given and data provided in the Cielo owners manual, you have a gearbox from the 1.5 MPFI engine probably 8 valve SOHC. According to the manual 1.5 DOHC has these ratios
    Gear ratio:
    1st 3.545
    2nd 1.952
    3rd 1.276
    4th 0.892
    5th 0.707
    reverse 3.333
    Final drive ratio 4.19
My question is what difference will Final drive ratio between 3.94 and 4.19 make on speed @ 120 KMPH what will be difference in RPM .

I got my gear box replaced with 5 speed for Rs 4,000/- but that was three years back. Any way its a worthy deal whenever u do it since it pays u back in the long run, especially when ur long distance traveling is frequent. By attaining higher speeds (110 kph & above) at relatively lower RPMs saves not only on fuel but also reduces engine wear & tear. So I calculated that with replaced (5 speed) gear box, if u travel 15000 kms of long route per year having avg speed of 90 kph, u would get the money spent on changing gear box back in 2 years. This calculation was off course based on the rate of CNG/gasoline three years back

    Gear ratio:
    1st 3.545
    2nd 1.952
    3rd 1.276
    4th 0.892
    5th 0.707
    reverse 3.333
    Final drive ratio 4.19
My question is what difference will Final drive ratio between 3.94 and 4.19 make on speed @ 120 KMPH what will be difference in RPM .
4.19:1 means that the final drive gear will rotate 4.19 times to turn the drive axle once (i.e. rotate the wheel once). I have checked the RPM at 120Km/h in 5th gear, it is 3000. So 3.94 requires 3K rpm to attain 120Km/h in 5th gear, 4.19 will require 1.06 X 3000=3180 RPM to attain the same speed in 5th gear.

The gearbox I have replaced is from c20le from Espero, which I got by chance. You can note the gear ratios and max speed difference from the attached picture.
