    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

    Default Vss

During recent gearbox change I discovered VSS wires of my car are broken or got broken. So its not there for ECM. Strangely car is running fine, no Engine Check Light. Mian Khan said its 'no problem as we don't change VSSs now but in old days used to change them'.

Drive Obs: Sometimes car becomes unstable on stops and sparingly engine turns off. Petrol running is not smooth and feels heavy. Mechanic says fuel filter + fuel pump is OK.

Question: Role of VSS =??? Is it so redundant now a days as the mechanic said.... Why there is no ECL? Why the car doesn't shut down on stops? I think the new VSS is not available in market so is the old one ok?

Any experiences similar to this by a DFC member.

Bought 5-speed kabli from Chahe Sultan Rwp for Rs. 10,000/-. Got installed from Mian Khan Rawal Road Rwp for labor cost 1,000+ two 1L Veslee GL-5 Oil Rs.580/-. Observation: 'goonj' in 4 gears. Result: Returned next day with refund (Mian Khan informed mostly chahe Sultan stuff is Singapuri and bad quality)

Bought another gearbox from Mitho Khan Ahata Saddar Rwp with Mian Khan's help after checking. Rs. 12000/- (hard bargain). Gear detached from up model Daewoo with ETEC engine. labor cost 600 + Veslee auto transmission oil (2.4l, cost Rs 600/-) Result: Nice gear response feels new, nice light drive.

Complete two days khoari + Rs 15,000/- spend.

Salam everyone, It is an amazing club and I must say @Testdrive you are a valuable asset in the club and your contribution is superb. I just bought a Daewoo yesterday in excellent condition but just need help in few things. Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Sorry for basic questions which are annoying but I don't have knowledge about it.

    1. I just want to get the car checked completely to make sure everything is okay, so where should I take the car and any guess how much will it cost?

    2. The doors are bit hard to open so where should I fix them?

    3. The car is metallic pearl white but the bumpers are black, where should I paint them?

    4. which engine oil, air filter, gear oil etc should I use?

    5. next to the speedometer the round thing only has the name daewoo and no rpm, so is that okay?

VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) tell the speed of car to ECM and in response to that the ECM control the fueling and idle RPMs. If CEL is connected properly, it should be displayed while VSS is faulty. To check if the CEL is properly connected, when the ignition is set to 'ON', the CEL should blink once and then displayed continuously unless the engine is started.
If you are running your car on CNG, it will not shutdown very often since ECM is not controlling the fueling. New VSS is available on demand since VSS is the most rugged sensor (does not give up easily ), so it is not a really running item. You can check the availability with the parts dealers from contacts page of this forum.

    Dear TestDriver:

This time I want to change the Oil of my Daewoo myself. Uptill now, my mechanic was using "Total 5000 QUARTZ" and the performance of the oil is amazing. Let me know the following Please:-

    (a) Is the Brand of the oil is OK?
    (b) How much quantity is sufficient for complete oil change in Daewoo?
    (c) Frequency of Oil Filter change.

Waiting for your expert opinion please.

if you go for a complete over haul, with new parts would cost you some where around 30K, with kabli you might save a few grands but not recommended

It depends on the current status of engine. If just crank has play, then you will need to rebuild the block. It will cost around 20K. For a complete overhaul, @sahhil has given you an estimated cost. Better take your car to mechanic for better opinion.

Total quartz is also a good brand provided you get the original one. I generally recommend any oil in transparent/light yellow color. (as told by an expert, at-least it ensures that the oil is not a recycled one).

    (a) I found Zic A (not A+) in 10w40 and Petromin ultra7 in 20w50 to be better.
    (b) The exact quantity is 3.78 litre with genuine filter and genuine single chamber packing. If using non genuine filter with double chamber packing, the amount may vary. The best practice is to pour 3.5 litre in one go and then check with dip stick unless you get the max mark reached.
    (c) You should change the filter with each oil change.

it is very much possible, but you will have to search alot because in good condition people DO NOT sell daewoo's as this car in good condition is none less than a luxury drive as expensive cars... if you find a good car, your luck, else trying finding something in 200-250K budget and then bring it upto your expectations

Dear Sahhil, I think you should contact some fiber works shop to have them made. There is one in G-10 I & T Centre named Waqar Light house.
