    Dear All,

    I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

    First of all, I recommend that you go to the person who installed CNG and ask him to bypass the advancer and then check your car for any problem. If your car is giving problem but not registering any code, it means sensors are not faulty. It is just a wiring problem. Regarding your second question, you can't use any other car scanner unless you have universal one.

    i think i can bypass the advancer myself coz there is a connector which CNG guy said to connect incase the advancer malfunctions......
    what about coolant sensor? coz its like this forever means showing erronous reading. do u think its sensor or also just wiring problem....n putting 47ohm resistance will solve it? without changing the sensor....

    Basically Daewoo has a set of a of coolant sensor and a temperature gauge. There is no relation between the coolant sensor and temperature gauge. The coolant sensor tell the temperature to the ECM only while the temperature gauge provide it's output to the instrument cluster only. The resistance is installed in series to temperature gauge not the coolant sensor (Both have separate wiring). It is obvious that putting the resistance will not solve the issue if the coolant sensor is faulty.

    wow thx a lot for clearing that up, as for now i was thinking these both r one and the same thing....so i guess the sesnor is not faulty but the temperature gauge is faulty which is not depicting correct reading off the coolant sensor.....will get it checked soon when i return to lhr...

    Dear Test Driver & all DFC members.

    Last week i travelled faisalabad via motorway. while travelling back I met an breakdown. my car stopped between Kallar Kahar & Balkasar. after that the car was not able to start due to heavy cranking. however I called motorway police, they towed my car to nearest autoworkshop (outside balkasar interchange). after investigation it was revealed that the cam shaft was broken. it was astonishing that there was no sound of any breakage during travelling. moreover the oil level was also normal. now a new cam shaft has been installed with lathe work on the tappet cover.

    testdriver and other members are requested to comment on it plz that what should be:-

    (a) Probable reason of this happening
    (b) Any indication of malfunctioning.
    (c) Measures to avoid any re-happening in future

    (a) Has there been any history of heat up? Probably the cam housing might be out of shape, causing unnecessary load on the cam shaft. From where did the cam shaft break? Middle? Where was the temperature needle while this happened?

    (b) The sound of timing belt can tell you if the engine is running hard in moving the cam shaft. Engine producing more heat than usual.

    (c) Avoid heat-ups by regularly monitoring the cooling system of engine. If there is excessive in the cooling system, get the head checked for it's face and/or air pockets.

    lately i noticed that whenever after driving the car when i open the radiator cap the water level is ok but the color is rusty at ist but after some time when the engine gets cold like 6 or 7 hours later..the water level is decreased but the color is clear? what could be the reason.....

    @TESTDRIVER i by passed the advancer and drove all the way from bwp to mul and then from mul to lahore in a day....the car wasnt heating up like it used to before. i think the head is ok coz if i dnt use A.C then there is no heat up issue much but only when i turn the A.C on that there is more load on engine and it gets hot...
    also even after bypassing the advancer i noticed high rpms on long drive and at one time it went so high that i had to pull over n off the engine...
    im now in lahore and will change radiotor ist....should i get the head checked as well? or leave it as such?

    for all DFC members and specially those living in Soan, PWD, NPF, Bahria Town and surroundings.........for ur convenience and satisfactory maintenance of ur woo for every thing at one place go to AL-Imran auto workshop right adjacent to police check post on airport road near karal chowk..........i m going there for the last 2 yrs and satisfied more than anyother including the G-10 (faqir muhammad) and others...........i m not recommending u that workshop coz i used to go there but with the hope that my brothers owning woo will have a good mechanic for each and every part of woo.....i went to other mechanics for various car works but the asked for $ (dollars) but here u will be surprized to hear the rates and work.......

    Thanks for your reply brother. Parawise reply of your questions are here:-

    (a) There is no history of previous heat ups. cam shaft was broken from the middle. The temperature needle was at lowest mark as usual. even at the time of occurrence the needle & engine temp was normal.
    (b) sound of timing belt was normal.
    (c) upon dismentalling the head found deshaped. and head gasket was also found damaged.

    However, I bring my daewoo to Mr. Abdul karim @ I-10. he remove the head and sent to kharadia for lathe work now car is ok.

    today i got checked the temperature gauge by two electricians in lahore. one said to change the temperature gauge while the other took it out it was all covered with rust..he removed the rust using ragemar and said it was all ok....now im not sure what to do whether to change it or not....in lahore weather was quite good so car didnt heatup....the air filter was choked so changed it. the guy tempered with distributor and advanced it abit...and now when i turn the A.C on the car vibrates on idle and turns off...speedomater cable is ok as well now...i think its IAC Valve....lets see tomorow...

    A question came in mind that does Woo have ability to go 0 to 100 in 10 seonds without any supercharger or Nos etc. I tested My woo but On petrol it was doing 0to 100 in 16 sec? i thought Maybe car needs a tuning and some stuff like that? please Guide.

    secondly Plz tell which mechanic is good for Woo Because I went to federal Motors but they don't do a satisfactory work they only charge money.My friend told me that Central Autos is Also good. And Any mechanic near Adyala Road?

    The stock 1.5 8V engine can do it in 12.5 seconds as per official documentation, but it is not mentioned how they compute 0-100 (specifically weight). I haven't accurately checked for my car, when it had the 8V engine, but on a 16V it was something like 11 seconds.

    For better 0-100 on petrol, you need to remove any alteration done specifically for CNG like Ventury/Nozel, Air Blockage, CNG cylinder and rear packing. Also the spark timing needs to be readjusted.

    my question is other than daewoo, i have changed gearbox of my khyber with the kabli one as previous one was producing enough goonj. now after replacement, it has been majorly reduced but still present therein.

    now there are two options either to replace it again or use some gear oil additive like liquimoly gear oil additive and liquimoly gear protect???

    what do you suggest? is it possible that this goong may be of some other thing. sound reduces in 3rd and 4th gear. in case of wheel bearing, it will not reduce in top gears.

    i used new gear oil of caltex of 90 No in the kabli gear.

    both mechanics were satisfied with the kabli gear quality when it was opened.

years. Some month ago I overhauled the engine from Daewoo point Islamabad but after the almost 10,000km running suddenly cam was broken at 95km/h speed.
    I go to my mechanic Daewoo point he change the cam shaft (KABLI) but after the 200km running one day I start my car in morning and after 2 mint cam was broken again. I call the mechanic he advice to change whole head with cam.
    Dear testdriver please guide me and also tell me what problem will occurs in my Daewoo Head. Can my Daewoo head is not repairable?
