    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

    Thanks in advance
Kirr Kirr like sound is usually produced by relays, but the sound should come from fuse box. If this is the case, the fuel pump relay/connector might be faulty.

By your statement it looks like engine knock sound, that by the way sounds more like "Karr Karr". If it is so, either get an advancer installed or mark two point on distributor after observing the ideal timing for petrol and cng (you can get help of some mechanic). While driving on petrol, turn the distributor to petrol mark and on cng turn the distributor to cng mark.

Yes its comming from Engine side...I guess this advance thing will be ideal...I do contact with mechanic..as i passed through all of you post..you recomended & using STAP 56, but its not availble..what could be the alternative if i want to install for petrol ideal timing..

    Default Ignition switch second failure

    dear testdriver and all,

My car stock ignition switch (arrowed part in the picture) was broken ~ 2years ago. Replaced it with a second hand one (original) but its again broken. Tahir recommended chevrolet optra switch. He says, the switch that in turn rotates might be hard.
Is optra's switch suitable? What could be the root cause/s of repeated failure?
    Thanks.

    Dear Testdriver

The air cond of my daewoo is alright. now I want to switch over to heating mode. Kindly let me know:

    (a) what are the requirements for heaters as the fan is through ignition switch.
    (b) is there separate coil for heaters or same cooling coil will serve as heating coil?

    Regards

As diagnosed by Tahir, the ignition switch might be problematic. It probably get stuck while turning. I haven't tested the Optra's ignition switch, but probably it is sharing the same GM part number with a Daewoo Racer's ignition switch. In that case you can use the Optra's ignition switch.

Heater has separate unit called heater coil.

For heater, you need to resume the connection of engine water lines to heater coil, if disconnected by any mechanic. Secondly install the thermostat valve back, if not already there. Thirdly allow automatic operation of radiator fan to acquire optimum heat levels quickly. It is noteworthy that the heat level is directly dependent on the engine coolant temperature, there is nothing electrical involved in the heating system (except the blower off-course )

Thanks adnan bhai, however i want to know the substite of STAP56. as i m frequently using Petrol/cng.
In addition with above, there is a small rubber with tape blocking the half air inflow passage, this is done by mechanic and instruct me to keep it as it is...is it right?or should i remove the rubber when driving on Petrol because last time on petrol as i press the accelerator deep car jerk feel like not getting proper fuel or air..however i removed that rubber ring..its get much better n breathing freely..

That's the point, you never get optimum performance on both the fuels at the same time unless you adopt a system in which on petrol, the blockage is removed and spark timing is set to petrol settings automatically (for example Baleno FF setup having solenoid controlled flap for air blockage on cng). Also dont forget about the additional cylinder weight, that also adds to your car's weight. Unless you remove it, you will not get optimum performance on petrol!

    Welcome to forum!

Daewoo is very nice car for local as well as long routes with good fuel consumption (~13Km/L[Petrol - mixed mode driving], 18Km/Kg[CNG - mixed mode driving]). Parts are available in major cities at reasonable cost. Refer to page 3 of this forum for workshops and part dealers.

It is a good option to avoid using CNG in prevailing situation!

Dear I also start thinking on same lines. But let me acknowledge somethings:

    (a) The future of CNG availability
    (b) The re-sale of CNG Kits

    Waiting for your response

The future is looking bleak as it is... government wants to introduce LNG and it’s pretty clear. CNG situation will remain as it is unless government cuts their profits or the court lets them increase the CNG price. My friend who has a couple of petrol pumps in ISD/Pindi told me that at current CNG's price they are having ~Rs. 15 per kg loss and they can't just shut down their CNG station because OGRA will cancel their NOC.

No idea about resale of the kits so I am not the best guy to comment on that.

    Dear All,

my daewoo racer is giving me issues running on petrol:

    1) it runs fine on cng
    2) it starts on petrol but immediatly stops. i.e it takes sulf on petrol starts and stops.
    3) if i start it on cng and then convert to petrol it gets converted and runs on petrol. (i can smell unburnt smell unburnt petrol in this state)
    4) my cng switch while on petrol shows both the petrol light (yellow one) the green light cng one.
    5) i started my car on cng , turned the cng cylinder's value off (from trunk) converted it one petrol it took a little acclereation and then stopped.
    6) a mechanic told me tht its ECU is faulty , but i dont buy it.
    7) The engine checklight is always on, it has always been this way and in this stat it was used to run on petrol perfectly fine.

Please help me out on this cus i am new with daewoos and i know mechanics in karachi have been ripping me off.

Please help me out on this cus i am new with daewoos and i know mechanics in karachi have been ripping me off.
After reading your entire post, I have come up with the following:

    Wiring issue:

Your point # 4 indicates that there is something bad on the wiring part. On petrol, the cng switch should indicate only petrol light. In current scenario, petrol is being mixed with cng during operation causing the engine to stall. Once you have corrected this problem, and there is still the same problem, get the ECM diagnosed for any problem.

    ECM & EFi system diagnosis:

When the ignition is set to 'ON' position, the check engine light should blink just once and stay 'ON' until the engine is started. If it is so then the ECM is working fine. You just have to follow the procedure to retrieve the codes, which is mentioned in the top post above, and then refer to the table for code specific information on the same post. After successful completion of this step, you should come up with clear picture of the entire EFi setup. If you find out at this stage that the ECM is faulty, you have to replace it. For price/availability related queries, refer to page 3 for contacts list (link mentioned in the top post)

    Fuel pump & Injector:

The pump should prime (briefly run) 2 seconds when ignition is set to 'ON' position (you can hear humming sound coming from the pump). It is a very preliminary check whether the ECM can control the fuel pump relay. If this is not happening, either the wiring has some issues, or the fuel pump relay is not working. If the pump is working, then get it's pressure checked. Also get the injector checked for any problem.

If the check engine light is always 'ON', your car must be fuel guzzler on petrol (black smoke from exhaust due to rich mixture), as any of the system fault is prohibiting the car to work optimally and your car is running in fail-safe mode.
