    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

I got it from Khalid (Friends Autos I-9) and I think I paid 3000 including the original steering. The digital meter was also installed by Khalid when he was working at Federal Autos a long time back (about 8-9 years) and this was among the few first batch of digital odo's that came for Daewoo (I think I paid 7000 alongwith the original meter at that time)

    @ALL
    Nice going.

There was a time when no one had knowledge about these things (especially Digital Meter), even the "Kabaria's" were treating them as junk, but now people have got knowledge and are keen to install them. These are being given a price tag of Rs.12K and above and are scarce in the market now a days.

    Welcome to the forum!

Your mechanic is probably right since there are some "jugaars" available to totally bypass the ECM on CNG. If you want to physically verify its existence, just remove the right kick panel (a plastic panel on the right side of accelerator pedal). You will find whether the ECM is present there or not. Another check is a blink in the check engine light when the ignition switch is set to ON.

If there is no ECM installed, you can get one from old parts shop along with wiring and sensors, at a price depending on your bargaining power . You can check the contacts given at page-3 of this forum (link mentioned in top post). There are three versions of ECMs, first one is for TBi engine (serial no: 1227303), second one is for SOHC MPi engine (serial no: 161....) and the third one is for DOHC MPi engine (serial no: 162....). The most visible thing in the DOHC ECM is that it has sky blue connector while the other two have black connectors. It will be better that you pick complete sensors with wiring and ECM from an old engine.

I have not yet seen an aftermarket mpg gauge. If it is available, it will not be compatible with the existing sender unit, it must come with a matching sender unit to be installed in the fuel tank, matching speed sensor(which actually translates the mileage of the car) and a control unit.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Does the sound come on both fuels? Can you make a video of the sound? Usually kar kar sound is engine knock and comes only on petrol when spark timing is too advance. Knocking also increases as the engine temperature goes higher.

yes ur right the sound comes only on petrol....and esp when the engine gets heated up esp on AC...when the needle leave the white area...the compressor turns off...and this sounds becomes much more prominent....and it esp comes when i accelerate..that is when i press on accelerator....the distributor is set at 4number....does it mean the advancer is not working...coz as i turn on the car on petrol... for a few seconds the speed gets high but then it gets normal....and i dont know wat to do abt this heat issue...coz if the ditributor setting is deceresed to mark between 4 and 3 the car gets way slow on cng...even when the air filter is blocked more then half with tape.

Most probably the advancer is not working or the wiring is not correct.

    WAS and well wishes too.

Besides CEL, what problem you are facing in your car? Is it drivable on petrol? Fuel pump is working or not? Any black smoke? I remember I read somewhere that code 54 is relevent to fuel pump circuit within ECM.

AoA and JazakAllah testdriver and welcome 786 ,actually besides CEL no noticeable issue however,

yesterday I was coming back from Gujranwala to Kharian (on petrol) it started(after 25 kms of driving on

max 80 kmph) to take sort of jolts and when a higher gear is shifted it became smooth for some time and

on pressing the throttle again same problem was observed.Today(driven on pet) in the morning it was again ok.

    WAS,

It seems to be either TPS problem as it is linked with the engine rpms (irregular voltage reading causing irregular supply of fuel at certain rpm), OR the fuel pump voltage are fluctuating causing irregular supply of fuel at certain rpms (Code-54). Get both of them checked for any problem.

You can also check the problem yourself if you have AVO meter. For TPS, you just have to attach the positive probe of AVOM to the blue wire of TPS by immersing a needle in the wire (do not remove the wiring harness/grip from TPS while testing) while the negative probe to engine ground. After starting the engine, slowly increase the throttle and in parallel check the voltage. The voltage should be linear throughout the throttle. If not, the TPS is problematic.
Similarly for fuel pump, attach the positive probe of AVOM to the blue wire of fuel pump harness/grip and negative probe to black wire, do not remove the harness from the fuel pump, but just use the needle immersing technique (NOTE: BE CAREFUL NOT TO ALLOW ANY SHORT CIRCUIT WHILE THE FUEL PUMP IS OPERATING OTHERWISE THERE ARE CHANCES OF FIRE). Then turn the ignition switch to 'ON' and check the voltage, it should be something around 12V. Then start the engine and slowly raise the rpms, the voltage should not drop below 12V throughout the rpm range.

I recommend that you take your car to a professional to undergo the above tests.
